He only started 3 games, but he was averaging 24mpg on the year. His last 6 games were 27mpg, 11.8pts and 3.5ast..on 9.5 shot attempts. I've been quiet and congratulatory on everything to date, but there's no way there wasn't room at the inn for him.

I'm not sure how that even gets perceived.

Yeah, not possible unless something went really bad that we don't know about or he just doesn't process information well.

Probably best not to speculate. Carton's comments only make sense in a behind the scenes context that we basically know nothing about. If OSU actually straight up asked Carton to leave, then it either makes Carton look pretty bad or our coaches extremely stupid. Given how vocal Holtmann was about supporting DJ during his mental health leave, I have to assume there is just an untold story here.

since dj is no longer a buckeye, i'm not going to worry about speculation...

my guess is "they don't have room for me" is his veiled way of saying, "i wanted to start, but coach didn't agree."

dj had a college-to-nba plan. that plan did not include coming off the bench for two seasons, which was probably how it was looking to dj back in january. i mean, what kind of point guard becomes a lottery pick after not starting for two seasons?

regarding mental health, i'm not going to assume that it couldn't have been a complementary factor. still don't see a reason to question dj's character.

Carton's stint at Ohio State lasted 20 games, coming to an end on January 30 when the program announced he'd be taking a leave of absence. Shortly thereafter, Carton took to Twitter to say he'd been "suffering with mental health issues for a couple years."

"I'm disappointed to say I'm not 100% right now," Carton wrote in a statement at the time. "I am not doing my teammates justice if I don't work on this now."

Just wondering: Does he think he's 100% now? If, so what effected it?

DJ Carton is known to many in the Quad Cities as a great athlete and basketball player at Bettendorf High School. But during his time at Bettendorf and Ohio State DJ was dealing with some mental health issues.

Carton was heavy recruited out of high school, and hated the fact that he had to tell coaches, “no.” DJ also did not like the social media attention and how everyone just knew him as the basketball player.

At Ohio State Carton’s issues got worst and he eventually lost 25 pounds due to an eating disorder. The people closest to Carton saw him change, and worried about him mentally.

January 30th, 2020 is a date that DJ Carton and his family will remember forever. That’s the day he left Ohio State. Many Questioned if DJ would ever play basketball again but for the Carton’s they just wanted to make sure DJ was DJ again.

The night he left Ohio State he was being evaluated by their therapist and the doctor for being suicidal. When he went back home in Bettendorf things did not get better and DJ struggled with the smallest activities.

“Things became even more difficult, watching him eat was physically impossible. We would go to an event and he would make himself eat and you would see him go almost throwing up in his month trying to force himself to eat a hamburger. It was so hard to watch. His favorite foods he would eat he couldn’t even eat them” said Jennifer and Dale Carton DJ’s mother and father.

DJ Carton is back loving the game of basketball and a big reason for that is Marquette accepting who he is and the relationships DJ has built with his team.

Carton is averaging almost 13 points per game this season on 45 percent shooting. After stepping away from the game for 6 month last year, he now is hoping for a future in basketball.
