I guess with a shot chart:wink: My point was that FG % is really a shot in the dark at this time of the season play because of the quality of opponents that we have played. The only really good defensive teams that we have played so far are the two that we have lost to. Some guys get a lot of freebies because they are at the other end on a fast-break. I know we are not talking about Sam Thompson but take away his dunks and his % would probably go way down. I know that Craft is not shooting the ball very well but to put him on the bench and not start him is not a good idea IMO
Good defense, Bad defense, what I look for is the ability of a player to get open shots no matter thru planned plays or thru abiliity and make those shots. Craft should be everaging 10% higher in shooting 3's (JMO).
Thomas should look to be a freshman losing his poise late in the game.
It's what makes winners.

Unreal effort by Aaron Craft tonight trying to keep the Buckeyes in the game. I don't mind if he isnt scoring if he is playing rabid defense and dishing the ball. It's not his job to keep the game on his back through scoring, thats DT's job. If he can continue to get to the rack and get someone else the ball, who is going to do something with it, I'm perfectly ok with it.

Unfortunately, when we have a guy drive to the basket, more than half of the time he finds himself alone in the paint. Everyone can't sit at the 3 point line. Someone has to figure out how to crash with the drive or find a way to make a midrange jumper.

The problem is it needs to be more than DT's job. Not necessarily Craft, but someone else needs to step up and contribute points. DT can't be the only consistent scorer of any kind if we're going to compete at a high level.

I agree but if we are running more and attacking the basket, it will be more scoring of opportunity by committee. DT is the half court guy to go to when you need a basket, imo. Clear out and let him work if necessary but attack the basket with our guard play and dish for the open shot or the put back in the lane. We just don't have that assassin on the outside this year. Ross has shown some ability lately but his defense is a serious liability.

Ross's problems this season stem more from his poor shooting percentage than they do from defensive "liability." His D, though not up to the level of Lenzelle Smith's or Thompson's, is pretty good.

3-point shot: Place for Aaron Craft in NBA?
January, 18, 2013
By Andy Katz | ESPN.com

1. Michigan sophomore guard Trey Burke has nothing but respect for Ohio State guard Aaron Craft. Craft defended Burke as well as any player has in his brief career. Burke said Craft wouldn't let him use any screens. Michigan coach John Beilein continued the praise of Craft when he said earlier Thursday that Craft could stay in front of NBA guards. He couldn't stop gushing over how well Craft moves his feet. One NBA scout was at Sunday's Ohio State-Michigan game in Columbus said he hadn't seen a player defend as well as Craft on the perimeter in some time. But he added that if Craft could shoot then there wouldn't be any hesitation on his NBA status. Beilein said there is a place for someone who can defend as well as Craft did Sunday.

It might be time for Craft to try and put this team on his back. I don't want him to force his offense necessarily but he needs to be inside the paint every time down the floor and his teammates need to be ready to put the ball in the hoop when they get a chance. DT can create and he's totally the man on offense but when Craft is attacking defenses, this team is scary because they are so athletic. Put Scott on the floor with him and do the same things or give him his breather from time to time. This team needs an identity in a hurry.

Not sure if the stats back this up or not, but it seems like whenever Craft penetrates he looks to shoot. I'd like to see him try and break down the defense and set teammates up more.

He was doing that and they weren't knocking down their shots (Kansas especially). Teams basically drop off of him when he drives, so he apparently now has the green like to get to the rim.

What I want to see is guys like Sam or Lenzelle trying to get to the rim more.
