When Chris Holtmann got the job at Ohio State, one of his stated goals was to control recruiting inside the borders of the state of Ohio. He has done a good job of that so far since getting the job, and on Sunday the Buckeyes staff flexed their recruiting muscle even more with the commitment of class of 2021 forward Kalen Etzler.
The No. 51 ranked prospect in the 247Sports Top 247 for the class of 2021, it is clear that Etzler has a lot of ability.
At about 6-foot-8 with good length and athleticism to go along with impressive shooting ability, Etzler is the type of new-age versatile forward that can play a variety of positions on both ends of the court, and be used in a variety of roles.

“I have committed to Ohio State,” Etzler told 247Sports. “I grew up a Buckeye fan my whole life, and the program fits what I like to do in terms of my position.”

He went on to say, “I loved the entire coaching staff, especially Coach (Ryan) Pedon. Also, I loved the campus and the facilities. By picking Ohio State, I feel like I will be fighting for something I love.”
According to Etzler, it didn’t take long for him to know that Ohio State was going to be the right place for him.
“The first I heard from Ohio State I was super shocked because it was a dream school,” said Etzler. “I love Coach Pedon, he is a great guy, and Coach Holtmann has been good since I started talking to him as well. I went down there on Thursday and got offered. After talking things over with my family, I just knew it was right for me and there was no reason to wait.”
