PF Jared Sullinger (2x 1st Team ALL B1G & All American, Anyang KGC, S.Korea)

Jared Sullinger, Ohio State
In 2008-09 there were two incredible sophomore big men on the loose in college basketball: Oklahoma's Blake Griffin, and Pittsburgh's DeJuan Blair. As second-year players they were both quite simply amazing. And while I don't want to put any undue pressure on Jared Sullinger, the plain fact is that he posted better numbers as a freshman than either Griffin or Blair did in their first seasons. Significantly better. For a freshman to log this many minutes, stay out of foul trouble, make 70 percent of his free throws, take care of the ball, and dominate the boards at both ends of the floor is very rare. Perhaps we can grasp the magnitude of Sullinger's decision to stay in school by noting that his freshman year stacks up pretty well against what Kevin Love was able to do for UCLA in 2007-08. Love promptly entered the NBA, where as a rookie he came very close to averaging a double-double for the season (11 points, nine boards) against the best players in the world -- this despite the fact that he logged just 53 percent of the available minutes. Sullinger is probably about as good now as Love was then. Fans in Columbus should get ready for an absolute monster season.

Given how much he focused on it during the season, I would say A LOT!
i don't recall 12- to 15-foot post-up fadeaway jumpers being a focus last season. maybe a tenth of sully's shots were jumpers and certainly less than half were post-up fadeaways, which should be a bread-and-butter move for an nba 6'7" pf/c who gets solid minutes. heck, i need to exclude the "post-up" designation. sullinger just needs to have a reliable fadeaway jumper.

My bad, didn't know you were talking mid range... He LOVED that close range post up fadeaway and hook. If he masters that hook, WATCH OUT!

it is certainly exciting to think about an expansion of sullinger's game. i think we saw about half to two-thirds of his full range last season, which is a scary thought.

Agreed, don't we have another big coming in the next recruiting class? Would be nice to give Sully the ability to move around. Wish we would have seen more of Lauderdale/Sully on at the same time this season.

amir williams, a true center, undoubtedly has a greater ceiling than lauderdale; however, i'm not certain that a freshman amir will draw the defensive attention that we'd like to see if sully is going to spend more time facing the bucket.

Super late commenting on this but I think this is what Ohio State needed. Lauderdale was awesome (one of my favorite players to watch progress as a basketball player), but he hit his ceiling rather fast. Next year's edition of Buckeye Basketball should be exciting to say the least. IMO, a more complete team if we can fill the gaps left open by the departure's/graduation of Diebs, Lighty, and Dallas.
