Pete Rose (Charlie Hustle, 4256, Reds HOF, R.I.P.)

Pete Rose appeared with former Reds teammates in Nashville, one day before he died

Pete Rose's final public appearance before his death Monday at age 83 came at the Music City sports collectibles and autograph show in Nashville, Tennessee.

Rose sat in a wheelchair as he posed for a photo Sunday at the show with fellow former Big Red Machine teammates Dave Concepcion, George Foster, Tony Perez and Ken Griffey Sr.

This warms my heart a little. That's probably a really comforting feeling.....being the "villain" of MLB but still being around super stars who have your back. 2 days before my dad died, we were together at just a random trip to the Baltimore Aquarium. If we hadn't done that, it would have been a while since he would have just been around me and my son. Knowing he was around loved ones right before he went out has kept me somewhat together since he left us. I like to think Pete was happy this day as well.

Dubs, you pulled out of your brain what I could not. Love your graphic lining up Dodgers v Reds line-ups, pretty much as I would have (if I retained my brain). Even tried to name some Reds pitching, can see the faces, but not the names. Tom Seaver (on his career downside), a shifty left-hander, and a big right hander to pair with Seaver are all that comes to mind. PS, when game was on the line, wanted to see Tony coming to bat rather than Bench. Props to you. PS, believe Pete and Griffey were both Cincy born and bred. PSS, always wondered why Joe Morgan never got a shot at managing a team anywhere. Did enjoy him as a color guy. Joe Nuxhall threw the knuckleball, but recollect he was an earlier edition of BRMachine.

Yeah I had to think really hard to remember Reds pitchers. There was Gary Nolan, Don Gullet, Pedro Borbon, Fred Norman, Jack Billingham, Rawley Eastwick, There was some good ones. I think Seaver joined the team in '78

Tito Francona played with Rose for one season in Montreal.

He once said that he learned more about baseball playing cards with Pete than he did from anyone else.

I also saw that there are only 3 players in baseball history who were Rookie of the Year, World Series MVP, and season MVP.

Rose was one and he played with the other two (Robinson and Bench).

Fire! Once I stopped staring at her hotness I looked at the cards they have and ended up purchasing both the Gold and the Silver one. About $250 but it'll never make up for losing my Big Red Machine rookie set. I'll die with that eating at my soul :sob:

Reds honor Pete Rose with 14-hour visitation at stadium

Thousands of fans streamed into Great American Ball Park despite steady rain Sunday to pay respects to Pete Rose, baseball's career hits leader who died Sept. 30 at the age of 83.

The 14-hour visitation, in honor of Rose's jersey number, was arranged by the Cincinnati Reds with cooperation from Rose's daughters, Fawn and Kara, who exchanged hugs, stories and even some tears with fans.

"We wanted to do something like this," said Rick Walls, executive director of the Reds Hall of Fame. "You could see from the turnout, it means a lot to the people here. It's a moving experience."

Despite his indiscretions away from the diamond, fans arrived as early as 4 a.m. Sunday to honor Rose, slowly passing by an urn containing his ashes and a table displaying his bright red Reds Hall of Fame induction suit jacket and other memorabilia while a highlight video of his illustrious career played on the concourse video boards.

Fans left flowers and other mementos at the Rose statue located just outside the main entrance to the ballpark.

"He was a guy you thought was going to live forever," longtime Reds fan Bob Augspurger said. "When I heard the news, obviously it was sad. Baseball lost its greatest ambassador."

Fawn Rose said in a statement, "We are deeply moved by the overwhelming love and support from the people of Cincinnati, the entire baseball community, and fans across the world as we mourn the loss of our beloved Dad, Grandpa, and Brother, Pete Rose."

The Reds plan to honor Rose on "Pete Rose Day" when they play the Chicago White Sox on May 14 with first pitch planned for 7:14 p.m., also in homage to his No. 14.

I was pretty upset when I heard the news on this one, absolute legend. I hope he gets inducted into the HOF and his family takes whatever relics are associated with it and tosses it into the Ohio River in protest for stiffing him until he died. That shit pissed me off so bad to hold him out until he passed and I can't help but feel animosity over it.

That said, I moreso was sad to see his passing. RIP Charlie Hustle.

President Trump says he will pardon baseball legend Pete Rose

President Donald Trump said Friday that he would pardon baseball great Pete Rose and criticized Major League Baseball for barring the all-time hit leader from the sport's Hall of Fame for gambling.

Rose, who died last year at 83, was banned from baseball for life. He admitted in 2004 that he had bet on games, though never against his own team. Commissioner Rob Manfred in 2015 rejected Rose's bid for reinstatement.

"Over the next few weeks I will be signing a complete pardon of Pete Rose, who shouldn't have been gambling on baseball, but only bet on his team winning," Trump posted on Truth Social. "He never betted against himself, or the other team. He had the most hits, by far, in baseball history, and won more games than anyone in sports history."

Sources: Manfred mulling family's request to remove Rose from ineligible list
Commissioner Rob Manfred is considering a petition filed on Jan. 8 by Pete Rose's family to have Major League Baseball's all-time hit leader posthumously removed from baseball's ineligible list, multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN on Saturday.

Jeffrey Lenkov, a Los Angeles lawyer who represented Rose prior to his death at age 83 in late September, said he filed the reinstatement petition after he and Fawn Rose, the oldest daughter of Pete Rose, met with Manfred and MLB spokesman Pat Courtney in the commissioner's office on Dec. 17.

"The commissioner was respectful, gracious, and actively participated in productive discussions regarding removing Rose from the ineligible list," Lenkov said of the one-hour meeting in the commissioner's office. Lenkov said he is seeking Rose's removal from MLB's banned list for betting on baseball "so that we could seek induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, which had long been his desire and is now being sought posthumously by his family."

MLB sources acknowledged the commissioner met with Fawn Rose and Lenkov and that Manfred is now reviewing the petition to reinstate Rose. In December 2015, Manfred rejected Rose's reinstatement petition after meeting with Pete Rose. Manfred and Courtney declined to comment on Saturday.

Pete Rose was never convicted of "betting on baseball" and the President cannot pardon someone for violating MLB rules. It's hilarious to me that people think that's what Trump's trying to do... or it's hilarious if that's what he IS trying to do....

Pete Rose was convicted of tax evasion in 1990. Trump can pardon him for that. A lot of good it'll do him. He's dead and already served his 5 month sentence.
