Pete Rose (Charlie Hustle, 4256, Reds HOF, R.I.P.)

He was my first favorite player even though he was towards the end of his playing days. Was even a Phillies fan for a hot minute. Smh RIP
We moved to LA when I was little from Ohio. This was during some very good Dodger years and they were serious rivals. I proudly wore my Reds hat and my grandmother made me a custom Pete Rose jersey to go with it. We saw the Reds at Dodger stadium whenever they came and we all proudly supported the team. Those were great years.

Nah. He agreed to the lifetime ban. I think he should be in in the near future, but I don’t have any problem with it being delayed until he was dead.
I guess that’s fair then.

Selfishly I do wish he lived to see it because I think it’s clear he deserves it.

Barry Bonds too.

TBH the HOF loses credibility not having these guys in there as flawed as they are as people.

Bonds should get discredited for his HR records when he was juicing but was HOF bound before he started juicing. Anyway I’m getting off topic so I’ll stop here.

Bonds didn't break any rules that are posted in every clubhouse from Single A ball all the way up through the MLB. That is a rather large difference.

Pete Rose appeared with former Reds teammates in Nashville, one day before he died

Pete Rose's final public appearance before his death Monday at age 83 came at the Music City sports collectibles and autograph show in Nashville, Tennessee.

Rose sat in a wheelchair as he posed for a photo Sunday at the show with fellow former Big Red Machine teammates Dave Concepcion, George Foster, Tony Perez and Ken Griffey Sr.

Always one of my favorites. Yeah, he always got in his own way, lived life as a 'never say you're sorry' type of guy, would rip out your throat to score another run, was an All Star at how many positions? Believe it was 5? Couldn't coach worth a damn, because his expectations were that you play at his level, which few if any could match. There were other greats that couldn't either. Still have the book, 'The Big Red Machine' somewhere in my library, and used to match it up with the Dodger line-up, Cey, Garvey, etc. Cincy could never match the Dodger pitching depth however. Anyway, hopefully, someone somewhere might relent and let Pete into the HOF posthumously, I'm hoping. He deserves to be. I seem to recollect, he didn't deny betting on baseball or his team, but ONLY on his team, never against. A flimsy excuse certainly, but compared to drug enhancing, etc pretty benign.

The issue is even if MLB reinstates him, BBWAA has to as well for the HOF since they run it.

BBWAA has an institutional hate for Rose. so we will see....

Tony Perez=Steve Garvey
Joe Morgan>Davey Lopes
Dave Concepcion>Bill Russel
Pete Rose>Ron Cey
George Foster>Dusty Baker
Ken Griffey=Rick Monday
Cesar Geronimo<Reggie Smith
Johnny Bench>Steve Yeagar

That pitching staff though, so many greats went through LA. Tommy John, Burt Hooten, Don Sutton, Rick Rhoden, Charlie Hough, Elias Sosa, Doug Rau...

I feel blessed to have been able to experience that time and place in the world. SoCal in the 1970's was amazing. Almost everything on TV and so many movies filmed on location there. It made you feel like you were living in the center of the universe. I also was able to experience a Rose Bowl and watch the Rams when they played at the coliseum.
