PETA sues Sea World over "slavery"

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is accusing the SeaWorld parks of keeping five star-performer whales in conditions that violate the 13th Amendment ban on slavery.

The suit, which PETA says it will file Wednesday in U.S. District Court in San Diego, hinges on the fact that the 13th Amendment, while prohibiting slavery and involuntary servitude, does not specify that only humans can be victims.

That's because the people who wrote the amendment were sane.

Nice. So if Sea World is charged with owning slaves, does that mean that Orkin will be charged with murdering insects when they spray insecticide around the outside of your house?

    6. Whales

I like how the article calls the whales star performers. I am now imagining whales that hoped and dreamed to be a star, but didn't make the cut.

Also, I apparently now have two cat slaves, and a few flies. And lots of bacteria.

Do they at least make the argument that these flippers have near human intelligence or something? Would it matter given their reasoning? Do they ever do anything but for publicity, only making themselves look stupid? Wow. This is awesome.

Crap, I am probably going to have to delete this. My fish just hired a lawyer. I should probably just flush him, but is that now murder?

    Peter Singer approves this argument.

Exerpts from the now classic "The Annex: Diary Notes from 12 May 2008 - 22 Sept 2010" kept by a feline freedom fighter captured during the human occupation of the early 21st century...

    Day 183 of my captivity...

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture.

Tomorrow I may eat another house plant. Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded -- must try this at the top of the stairs.

In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair -- must try this on their bed.

Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in an attempt to make t! hem aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was. Hmmm, not working according to plan.

There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed insolitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird on the other hand has got to be an informant, and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room, his safety is assured.

But I can wait, it is only a matter of time...

Actually, Jake "hates" people who don't understand Jake's positions on issues then proceed to mischaracterize them. I "hate" two of the items on that list. The other three just expose your stupidity, which is another thing Jake hates.

What any of this has to do with the thread...
