PETA sues Sea World over "slavery"

Whoever made this pic better hope PETA doesn't see it.

I don't really know a lot about PETA, but it seems they'd just kill them and then put a naked celebrity on a tiger skinned rug.

I've mentioned before here that my mom was a naturalist. A natural resources grad at Ohio State, where there is actually a scholarship in her name awarded annually. She hated Greenpeace for sensationalist behavior. One article I remember her showing me, and this was the 80s when she studied so I don't remember it verbatim, had Greenpeace quoting a Santiago, Chile article from something like "1,500 people watched as two baby seals were clubbed to death" to "1,500. . . baby seals were clubbed to death."

She did like the Sierra Club, btw, and I also like WWF and the ASPCA, among others. A whole different issue is why I donate to animals and not humans. Is this ethical? I do sponsor a kid through Plan USA though. :)

Slave whales? Don't get it.

I can see that it's a little bit Minstrel-y, what with the obvious blackface.... but I don't see where that's a 13th Amendment issue.

Now, that one 70's flick, Shamu Jones co-starring Fred Williamson probably crossed the line. I did like Pam Greer in it, though.

Your comments require clarification:

1. Is your reference to a 13th amendment an attempt at levity? Such a thing does not exist

2. Clearly no one has successfully made a whale of any size subservient

3. Whaling is what me and other gentlemen who are of like mind say both in reference to the industrial hunting of whales for their valuable oil, as well as what we say amongst each other when referring to the larger, homelier women we may, ahem, come to know

4. I have come to know many of whom are currently in my domestic employ

5. Some of them are also large and homely

...how on earth this particular conversation came to be about anything related to the law is beyond the realm of my understanding

Well then, I'll bring my harpoon and we can party like its 1829. No homo.

Actually, Jake "hates" people who don't understand Jake's positions on issues then proceed to mischaracterize them. I "hate" two of the items on that list. The other three just expose your stupidity, which is another thing Jake hates.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is accusing the SeaWorld parks of keeping five star-performer whales in conditions that violate the 13th Amendment ban on slavery.

The suit, which PETA says it will file Wednesday in U.S. District Court in San Diego, hinges on the fact that the 13th Amendment, while prohibiting slavery and involuntary servitude, does not specify that only humans can be victims.

That's because the people who wrote the amendment were sane.

So all house pets are slaves? Fucking. Morons.
