Not sure what the obsession with PETA on this board. Have you ever met a PETA member? What have they ever done to influence your life?

Nothing in my life personally, but since my family are farmers, I don't appreciate its stance of comparing cattle/hog/sheep/chicken farmers to those who conducted the Holocaust.

Also, Ohio State lost a very respected veterinary medical researcher, who had brought a $1.7 million grant to the university, because of a radical animal rights group similar to PETA simply because he was infecting cats with AIDS in order to search for a cure. Actions like these make me sick.

My problem with the various animal rights groups is that instead of going after the most egregious problems with the treatment of animals they waste their time with ridiculous issues that make their general cause look silly. I think they have perhaps the worst political strategy out their of any special interest.

Ethical treatment of animals -- sounds reasonable, doesn't it? I certainly believe that this is a good cause but that the "radicals" get more press than the people who are actually preventing animal abuse and doing it in a respectable way. I would suspect the latter outnumbers the former but you wouldn't know that based on what you see on Fox News. I'd be interested to know the facts behind the "PETA kills animals" campaign, but I don't really care enough to look it up.

I guarantee that farmers and hunters actual care about more and come into contact w/ on a daily basis a much wider variety of animals than the PETA people. Yeah, my dad sent a cow to the slaughterhouse last week, but he treats all his animals like kings-his barn cat has it's own crock pot in the barn so he can boil meat for it. From what I have seen of them PETA members literally place animals on the same moral plain as human beings. That is just flawed ethical thinking-and I have had Catholic lay ministers tell me this. Animal abuse is one thing, superiority over lesser species is another.

Ask an average member if they have their children immunized, and then ask them where they think those types of things come from, and if they are worth it. Wait for them to fumble trying to find an answer.

As with most groups, it's the tactics, not the basic theory and tennent, that is the main problem.

Well since you asked a good bit.

First off, I'm not for abusing animals, no one is unless they are insane.

My personal problem is that they used to show up at livestock shows I exhibited at protesting the treatment of the cattle we showed.

These animals were treated better than many humans. Get fed the best feed and many were kept in air-conditioned rooms in the summer to keep them from getting too hot.

My grandpa worked his ass of for over 50 years to have some city slicker come into his way of living and try to hurt his bottom line.

I won't stand for that and neither should anyone else.

Here's the kicker, one of these idiots actually asked if the cattle bite! :slappy:

My bet is that most of these people had never been on a farm before.

Providing crap like this to the youth for starters that make attempts to potentially tear family apart is enough for me...

At a more personal level; My dad is a conservation officer/fresh water biologist. Where they have had some protest about fishing...

Here is a line form that comic.... "Until your daddy learns that it's not 'fun' to kill, keep your doggies and kitties away from him. He's so hooked on killing defenseless animals that they could be next!"

"Having your pet doggie or kitty is a lot of fun isn't it? But how would you feel if your Mommy took away your Doggy or Kitty and stomped on its head, then ripped its skin off to make a fur jacket, you'd be sad wouldn't you?"

Well, ma'am, they does and they don't. If'n you sneak up behind 'em, they'll bite ya' real good. It's the black and white ones you gotta watch. Them Whole-STEENs. Heck, if we miss feeding time more'n an hour, they go after small kids and dogs. Lost little Arnie that way, but to be truthful, that kid was a pain in the arse since birth anyway. And that there Charolais behind ya', run if he tries to lick ya, that's how they start their mating ritual.
