Personal Opinion VS Personal Judgement

Disagree, at least somewhat... Around here, people can not only have an opinion, but express it freely, so long as it doesn't break board rules (personal attack, etc).

But in exchange, no poster gets to control the reaction to said opinions... so considering the probable reaction ahead of time can be a useful exercise. Interestingly, you can usually speak against the tide around here with no problem whatsoever, so long as it's done with a modicum of diplomacy. Say, by not insulting the people to whom you are speaking by implying that that they are disgusting. Just a general thought as I haven't been following the thread where this started and I only skimmed here.

Ok, fair enough. I had tried in the previous posts to try to make clear that it wasn't what he said but where he said it. He didn't seem to be getting that so I tried for a more dramatic statement. My apologies.

Deety, I respectfully disagree. I don't expect everyone to agree with us, nor do I think we should censor people, but to use an extreme example here, Jeffcat, you can't say exactly what you think/feel.

I don't think PennState has done anything against the rules, but I think he should have lurked a little more and gotten to know us. I was lurking for like 3 months and came in expecting the worst.

I think that was the point... PennState1985's initial comment may have been ill-advised, but not against the rules.

Someone disapproving of an internet thread is not the same thing as walking up to someone's mom and slandering her. And I guess answering a question with a bunch of lame jokes that only you laugh at contributes positively to a community atmosphere?

You use your "right to say whatever you want" in a thread, where by the title of the thread (Girls Kissing Girls), you know that you do not agree with the subject matter. Someone immediately gives you the best advice that most anyone in this country can follow when faced with material they do not like....change the channel. In your case, however, it wasn't about changing the channel, you chose to view something you find objectionable.

I would hope that the vast majority of people on this board, no make that in this country, would get pissed off by your comment. Personally, I get very pissed off, and I am getting goddamned sick and tired of it in little everyday offline matters, when someone such as yourself does something like this. You know that you don't approve of the girls kissing girls, so why even go there?!? You can spew the old "I have a right to say what I want" or "I have strong opinions" crap all you want, but I also detect that old morality refrain. Great, good for you and your morals, but I would hope that the vast majority of people would be pissed with you pushing your morals on everyone.

So continue to "state your opinions" and then get defensive when rational (for the most part ) people object and basically tell you to keep your nose out of something you don't like (which ironically, I consider to be a definition of conservatism....keep the government out of the individual's personal life, something that I support 100%). For some reason, the more posts of yours that I read here, I keep thinking of a famous line from Macbeth, and said by Macbeth. (Easy greenies to the first poster who identifies said line.)

Chalk it up to my bad habit of posting when under the influence. It's gotten me in alot of fights on messageboards over the years. But I still do it anyway. Notice how my posting for the past couple days has changed compared to my earliest posts.

The last time Ohio State came to Happy Valley, in 2005, the marching band also came. Last night, the band wasn't here, but it was in spirit, co-captain and tackle Kirk Barton said.
