If you are that focused on showing all of us sub 50%ers that some tsun players are actually good you could have picked a different hill to die on than Julius fucking Peppers.

They have actually had some legitimately good players.

He just wasn't one of them.
The idiots on TV never shut up about him while Jourdan Lewis was quietly playing CB at an elite level.

And getting his shit absolutely blown up when Peppers couldn't be bothered to block Ped's gigantic kicker:

Business decision. I wouldn't step in front of that dude even if it was my own mother back there returning kicks.

Actually, I'd probably help up the kicker and give him a high five for that hit.

Blocking is the only thing Pep couldn't do at an elite level.
My absolute favorite Peppers play came in the 2016 version of The Game. Our offense couldn't really get any traction in the first half....we're actually down 3-0 close to halftime, and we have to punt to Peppers. Cam Johnston does Cam Johnston things and blasts one that would land at the Michigan 15. Peppers, standing on the 20, has a choice to make.

1. Back up a bit, make a fair catch, save some yards.
2. Be a Michigan Man.

He calls for the fair catch, and lets it go over his head in the hopes that it will reach the end zone. In the process, he throws a cheap shoulder into gunner Eric Carter Williams....who has no ability to do anything to Peppers, because he signaled for a fair catch. That's a semi bitch move in my book, but whatever. I'm sure it inflated Peppers' ego because he's just that kind of cool. The ball comes to rest gently at the Michigan 5.

Good choice? I guess it depends on what drives you as a football player. A 5 star player who commits to Ohio State is expected to choke you over a game of checkers. That player would claw tooth and nail to not give up those yards. A 5 star player who commits to Michigan has already succeeded at life. What's a couple of yards closer to your end zone when you can lay a hit on an unsuspecting opponent and be certain he can't even do anything to you after the fact? Shit....if anything from the past is an indication of how they've been told to behave during The Game, he's probably hoping for some retaliation and a free 15 yards. Again...something cheap.

Well....maybe what happened on the. very. next. play. is the best indication of if it was a good idea or not.

This is why he chose Michigan. This is why they'll always be Michigan. That's their mentality....and part of that mentality is to never change that mentality. Our mentality used to be to have a shit ton of talent and fucking collapse against inferior Michigan teams and in bowl games. Then we went off script and Tressel changed it, and Urban enhanced it. Now our mentality is kicking their ass on the scoreboard. Theirs is inventing ways to try and psyche us out with planned bullshit stunts. Peppers is the perfect embodiment of that....because he chose it. If it were me, I'd have chosen to take my supposed 5 star talent and be fucking elite.

Seriously. One of the things I like about this board is you don’t see posts like “Jake Long and Tom Mack couldn’t block anybody” or “you know who really sucked at receiver? Anthony Carter” or “worst defensive back ever? Dave Brown”. The idea that Gerbil played at the same level, or even the same sport, as Ty Law or Charles Woodson is laughable to me.

And none of that even gets into the “interesting” idea that being a first round pick is exclusively, or even mostly, reflective of college production.

Julius Peppers, while not a scUMmer, did actually live up to his billing
