Get off my lawn, you hooligans!
So... I'm just paranoid about my computer, but I thought I'd see if anyone can help me out on this. Basically, anyone have a pentium D, and if so, how hot does it run for you?

I just (a month or so ago) built myself a new computer. I find that it kicks ass, but the fact that it runs significantly hotter than my old one makes me nervous.

Old 'puter:
2.4 GHz pentium 4 (HT), 1.5 Gig RAM, 256 Mb AGP video, etc.
CPU maintains steady 34 deg C, up to 41 or 44 if I'm running something that really stresses it (Doom3, quake4, etc.)

New 'puter
3.0 GHz Pentium D, 1 Gig DDR2 RAM, 256 Mb PCI-X video (SLI-only one card installed), etc.
CPU runs at 54 C baseline, but it'll push 68 when gaming.

I actually called Intel on this, and was told that mine is actually running pretty cool for a dual-core CPU. I'm just paranoid and want to make sure this sucka is getting enough cooling. I think I'm OK, just because the temp plateaus and remains stable (below the thermal Spec for the processor--I double checked).

Any input is, of course, greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't worry about it. You had it really good before, because that 2.4 P4 is known for running rather cool and being overclockable (I have one that runs at 2.8 without any problems).

If you'd like to test it, run Prime95 for a day or so on Torture Test mode. If the computer makes it through that without crashing, it's rock solid stable. Modern computers run hot; I personally only worry about temps with unstable computers.
