Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Just sayin': With all that cocaine you'd think Ped State would be higher than #9 on the "party school ranking".....

MY NAME IS ROD, AND I LIKE TO PARTY. Ohio State ranked No. 1 in the AP Poll released Monday, but that’s not the only top-25 list the Buckeyes made this week. According to USA TODAY, Ohio State is one of the best party schools in the United States, barely cracking the top 25 alongside universities like Tulane, Alabama, Florida State, Georgia and Wisconsin.

Here’s a look at the complete rankings, which USA TODAY averaged from seven lists, including one from The Wall Street Journal:

  1. Tulane
  2. Alabama
  3. Florida State
  4. Georgia
  5. Wisconsin
  6. West Virginia
  7. USC
  8. UC Santa Barbara
  9. Penn State
  10. Ole Miss
  11. Miami (Ohio)
  12. Arizona State
  13. Indiana
  14. Miami
  15. San Diego State
  16. Syracuse
  17. Colorado
  18. Illinois
  19. Howard
  20. Michigan State
  21. Iowa
  22. Arizona
  23. Dayton
  24. Delaware
  25. Ohio State

Assuming that's a serious post from a Penn State fan, I think this is the very heart of the problem. This is why we call you a fucking cult.

See, your identity is tied directly to that university. Your successes are theirs and theirs are yours. And that's why the Sandusky shit hurt you so much. There's an issue where a former assistant coach was using university facilities to molest kids. And that hurts you because you're so tied to that university. So, instead of being rational about it, you argue whether it happened... whether it COULD HAVE happened. And you convinced yourselves and each other that the rest of the world was out to get you.

And now, when some other shit happens at your university, you point fingers at everyone else, saying that everyone does it.

I didn't go to a Big Ten school, or even a school with a Div1 football team. But if some staff member ever gets found guilty for raping kids, I'd support putting him in prison forever. If the school was caught covering up for him, I'd want more people thrown in prison. And if a fraternity gets caught with a huge drug-dealing scheme, I wouldn't point at everyone else saying that it's just common practice.

Perception is reality - you THINK people are going to judge you based on what school you went to, and then people start judging you based on what school you went to.

Just sayin': The precedence is already established; the NCAA didn't buy when scUM tried to use it for their sign stealing violations....

The Defense: During the investigation, Michigan and its defenders argued that other programs also shared or gathered sign data improperly. However, governing bodies and the NCAA maintain that "everyone else does it" is not a valid defense against breaking explicit rules regarding advanced scouting networks

The irony of high powered, very expensive, lawyers trying the defense that our mothers slapped out of our heads when we were less than 10 years old will never cease to amaze me.

The Supreme Court of Mom Justice issued a ruling on this one long ago. They probably got it from the Old Testament. "...and the Lord said 'I giveth a fuck what everyone else is doing. Thou dwellest under mine roof, thou shall adhere to My rule and thou knewest the rules' then there was a sound of thunder, and there was darkness...."

That ruling was swift, unambiguous and some would say, severe. So much so in fact that, as an adult, if I even so much as think "everyone else does it" my body reflexively flinches and I duck my head. I can still hear her rebuttal and I can still feel that old familiar feeling of knowing I shouldn't have said something the second it left my mouth.
