Honoring Joe . . .Reply

I see there is a a restore the wins rally (pinned at top) and a 409 petition this weekend.

It might be too late now to coordinate and spread the word, but what if every tailgater around Beaver Stadium started honking their horns at 4:09 PM (about 4 hours before game time when most fans will be there already). You could call it HONK FOR HONOR or BLARE OUT THE BOT.

Too obnoxious?

Too hard to coordinate?

Hey, it's not like I haven't had stupid ideas before. Stupid is as stupid does.

I'm trying to imagine how loud that would be and how far away you might be able to hear it if EVERYONE participated and pulled it off.

Anyone else see the humor in honoring a guy who kept things quiet by making as much noise as possible?

Weird. I won't bother linking because it isn't THAT kind of weird. But someone on BWI is selling 3 tickets to this game. Seat numbers are 19, 21, and 23. What happened to 20 and 22? Someone else already has those? Or are even numbered seats forbidden in that section?

Touche. But that's all old news and this is new. 8D

Also - the two items I point out - I don't believe that Joesus didn't like his statue, and I think he absolutely cared about 409. If I had any statue-making skills, and I made a statue for someone to honor him, and he hated it, I don't know that I'd want it up. Or, maybe it wasn't his choice. I'm sure it was SOMEONE's choice. If it was my choice, and Paterno hated it, I'd ask him how he'd rather be honored. Paterno liked that he had a statue. He was as phony about that as he was about not knowing anything about Jerry. And that 409 - I guess I don't have any arguments for why I think he cared about that. So.. never mind that one, I guess.

Agreed all around. I think he liked the statue and I have no doubts he cared about 409. Considering he damn near ran that university, I'm sure if he hated the statue, the statue wouldn't have gone up. And if the betterment of the university or the kids of Happy Valley were his top priority, things would have been handled different. But they weren't because he wanted 409 (or 425 or 450 or whatever his goal was).

How about the fact that he refused to step down when he was going through 3 and 4 win seasons and they were trying to let him retire with dignity.
Or the fact that he stayed, pretending to be the coach, when everybody knew he wasn't doing anything more than standing there looking for kids to yell at because they were on his lawn.
Or the coincidence that everything came to a head immediately after he passed Eddie Robinson.

The hating of the statue isn't about actually hating the statue. It's that he was so modest and humble, he was almost embarrassed by it. But it made the fans happy and he was so willing to feel uncomfortable about it, because he's such a swell guy and all, that he tolerated it.

Sometimes I forget that you guys aren't privy to this information 24/7 like I am.
