Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

A loss of accreditation won't happen because this is an election year. They'll just get a fine they have to use in Pennsylvania.
SIAP: Accreditation does not come from the Fed. Universities are accredited, and that accreditation is re-newed, or not renewed, through a quadrennial review conducted by faculty and administrators from other universities in your association. Penn State is probably reviewed by North Central Association because that is the body that all other Big Ten schools belong to. However, the state of Pennsylvania is not a part of North Central.

Thank you...I realize you're in the education field and I think we've had that very discussion about Ped State in the past actually - probably within this thread.

Turns out that PSU belongs to Middle States Association. Based on my limited experience with reviews here is what PSU would be required to do:
A) prove the existence of policy to report such offenses, monitor compliance, investigate and apply appropriate penalties.
B) if no policy existed prior to Sandusky, create policy, appoint monitors and lines of authority, ie SOP, present proof that policy was in place, all pertinent personnel notified, training conducted and personnel records indicating who was/wasn't trained, proof that policy is being enforced and all incidents reported, reviewed, adjudicated in an appropriate manner.

It looks to me as if MSA told PSU what they needed to do to come into compliance, PSU investigated, removed personnel who violated policy, probably created a training program and came into compliance this academic year - which strangely seems to go against what the fools on BWI want done.

And they remodeled the showers.

And they remodeled the showers.
Short of making stalls so small that only one man could squeeze in - like the one in my hotel in Prague last May, but that's another thread - I don't know how you remodel showers to make them pedophile proof. I do understand why they re-did the showers though. I can just see them giving a recruit the facilites tour and having a thought balloon appear above the recruit's head, "I wonder which one of these Jerry used to rape that kid? Yuck!"

I already researched something to that effect in a previous post. post #12861

"Upon further research......"

Middle States Commission on Higher Learning

Warning Removed and Accreditation Reaffirmed

Delaware College of Art and Design, DE
Erie Community College, NY
Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, PA
Pennsylvania Institute of Technology, PA
Pennsylvania State University, The, PA
Ulster County Community College, NY

But I suppose there are multiple accreditation groups a school could belong too?

No. Accrediting associations are regionally based and are at the very core of the integrity of the college system.

They're the folks who assure students that the professors have the background to teach the courses to which they are assigned, that CVs are filed along with syllabi for each course taught, that school curricula meet mutually agreed upon standards with fellow institutions, that certain practices are followed, that students are protected, etc. etc.

There is no bargaining, looking for a better deal with another association. Anyone who has worked as faculty or admin at a college will tell you that while there are few saints among faculty or administrators, there is considerable attention paid to ethics and scholarship.

Almost all institutions follow the letter and spirit of the law. Why? The consequences for non-compliance are too severe.

While I was a GTA at U Cincinnati the school was still transitioning from municipal to state control. There were more than a few professors whose degrees, BS, MS/A and PHD were from UC - a real academic no-no. North Central Association insisted that UC's policy of academic nepotism cease. Within the next 4 years those professors holding UC PHDs were retired or forced to move on, a shift that was unpopular and expensive, but was accepted as necessary.

While PSU was ill served during the Sandusky episode, responsible people have come forward and saved the institution. Theirs is a work of honor and sacrifice the BWI crowd refuses to accept or acknowledge.

Normally, I wouldn't bother linking this, but I REALLY don't want to do work right now. So.... here you go.

I had a nightmare the other night that we lost to Rutgers in triple OT.
The worst part was the refs refused to let us have our turn with the ball in the third
OT after Rutgers went first and kicked a field goal. Typical Big Ten ref scum!

This quote has NOTHING to do with the original post, but its the first reply. He's complaining about the referees in his dream!!

They are in a tizzy over the latest court case that is going on. I don't know which one it is at the moment....which just speaks volumes about how big of a mess they've gotten themselves into. Err....I mean....what a mess the B1G has gotten them into by being backstabbers and cheaters. Fuck the B1G!

I haven't been over there in almost 2 hours. But I've noticed that they like that tizzy. I haven't been paying attention to what court cases are going on. Are there more than one? Who is suing whom? Is it a criminal trial? All I know is that they are always confident that "the truth will come out" and that "the NCAA is going down!" and other nonsense like that.
