Penn State issues formal settlement documents to Jerry Sandusky sex abuse claimants

Penn State is starting to pay up for the sins of Jerry Sandusky.
According to sources familiar with the situation, the university's attorneys began forwarding final monetary settlement documents Friday to more than two dozen men who claim to have been sexually abused by Sandusky as children.
That symbolically rings the bell lap for a mediation process begun last summer.
Assuming no unforeseen glitches, the coming final sign-offs will clear the way for case-by-case monetary settlements intended help Penn State both take ownership of its role in the scandal and to move forward from it.
If all the claimants with final offers sign the bottom line, it could cost up to $60 million.

IgnoreThis setllement specifically does not have a confidentiality clause.Reply And where I live, if a government entity pays a settlement it is public record, period. What you do not seem to understand is that the sunshine law in PA DOES NOT APPLY to PSU. As an institution it is exempt. We would not get it no matter what it was.

Weren't these dumbasses championing how everything at Ped State was confidential because of this law as well at one point?

May well be that Sandusky groomed the kid from an early age, and only struck after several years. This would certainly explain why they paid so much and settled this one first. It is right on Gary Schultz's head.

And wasn't the whole catalyst for Penn State getting this exemption to open record laws, a tooth and nail fight to protect JoePed's salary from becoming public? The entire university went to war in order to protect the JoePed myth and image....in this case that he only made a few hundred thousand dollars a year (he made over a million).

Nope, no out of control culture and misplaced priorities there.
