Mike Hull. Was he even a starter?

EDIT: Checked his PedState bio page...seems he'll be no big loss. A third of the snaps he saw came against Indiana State and Eastern Michigan.

Yes, it was Hull and I meant to include his name. He was playing as a RS Frosh last season. And yes - he is second team, behind first team All Big Ten Gerald Hodges.

To suggest any loss at PSU right now is not a big loss misses the point of what is happening IMO. Without Hull next year could see a true Frosh starter instead of a 4th year Junior.

That would absolutely kill their LB depth if both he and Fortt were to transfer. They'll lose several seniors in the two-deep after the season as well.

I also misrepresented Anthony Fera in an earlier post, describing him as second time P/K because that is where he was listed on the depth chart I was looking at. That was actually because of an appendectomy near the end of last season.

He was second team All Big Ten last year and semifinalist for both the Groza and Guy awards.

For those keeping score, O'Brien has announced that all but 2 or 3 players have told him they are returning. Those 2 or 3 include:

Starting RB Redd visiting USC
Starting LB Fortt visiting TCU
2nd team TE Haplea visiting FSU
Frosh DT Pollard switching to Rutgers
Backup punter/kicker Fera visiting Texas
RS Frosh OL Nowicki has announced he will not be returning (no destination)

So far as we know all committed players for the class of 2013 own televisions.

TB Curtis Dukes, WR Shawney Kersey, and QB Rob Bolden are also rumored to be looking around. All are backups, and none look to be too big of losses.

Look at the offense. They have 8 senior starters. Add to that Redd who is a junior and whose listed backup is a senior. McGoin is a senior and Bolden and Jones are both vaguely rumored to be transfer candidates. Most significantly 7 of the 10 names listed in the two deep at OL are seniors. Ryan Nowicki (not on their depth chart but a well regarded Soph) who was expected to step into one of those roles has already said he is gone.

To be sure, OSU had some numbers issues coming into this season but we have moved people around to compensate. PSU will not have that luxury. If they any more of the OL studs from their 2011 class things get critical.

While staying at 85 in 2013 they will have plenty of ships, but I look for lots of those to go to walk-ons - and that's just lipstick.

It will be an interesting weekend.

Depth chart I am looking at shows Kersey as a starter. If rumors of Jones being at Pitt this weekend are true Bolden could be huge - particularly if the Hackenburg commit does not hold.
