Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Bucky Katt;2183656; said:
I'd have a lot more respect for him if he came out and said something along the lines of:

Out of respect to all of the victims [strike]or whatever you want to call them[/strike] we will humbly take whatever punishment is deemed to be fair and quietly move on, knowing that we must learn from this and come out the other side as a stronger and better university.

This is what I want to hear more of:

(emphasis mine)

Acting A.D. David Joyner said:
The Freeh Report concluded that individuals at Penn State University entrusted to positions of authority, shunned their basic responsibility to protect children, and innocent children suffered as a result. Our hearts go out to the victims of this abuse and their families..

Today Penn State takes another step forward in changing the culture at the institution as we accept the penalties of the NCAA for the failure of leadership that occurred on our campus. We are deeply disappointed that some of our leaders could have turned a blind eye to such abuse, and agree that the culture at Penn State must change. As we move forward, today's student athletes have a challenging road ahead. But they will do the right thing, as they have always done. I am confident all of our head coaches will come together to make the change necessary to drive our university forward. Penn State will continue to fully support its established athletic programs, which provide opportunities for over 800 student athletes.

Working together, the path ahead will not be easy. But it is necessary, just, and will bring a better future. Our faculty, staff, students, athletes, and parents will work together as Penn State begins this new chapter. Through this cooperation and collaboration, Penn State will become a national model for compliance, ethics, and embodiment of the student athlete credo.

Wall behind Joe Paterno statue demolished

STATE COLLEGE, Penn. (CNN) -- A wall once dedicated to famed football coach Joe Paterno now sits in a pile of rubble.

On Tuesday, construction workers tore down the wall at Penn State's football stadium.

Two days ago, crews removed another monument to the legendary coach, a 900-pound bronze statue of him that stood in front of the wall.

The demolitions come after a recent report revealed several top university officials, including Paterno, covered up former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky's sexual abuse of young boys.

Monday, the National Collegiate Athletic Association imposed a slew of penalties, including a 60-million dollar fine, on Penn State.

The library at Penn State also bears Paterno's name. The university president says that honor will remain.

For now.....

I won't vouch for my source on this one, but I just got word that, on Sunday night, Penn State went to the NCAA with proposed self-imposed sanctions:

Fifteen Self-Imposed Sanctions Proposed By Penn State to the NCAA
15. Force players to clean stadium after home games for entire 2012 season
14. Limit of one off-campus brawl per month
13. Sponsor free hygiene seminars for local youths
12. Require head football coach to share all email correspondence with Athletic Director, Chief of Security, and school President
11. Donate all profits from sale of Peachy Paterno ice cream to charity for one whole year (Saturdays of home games excluded)
10. Place "Child Rape Awareness" ribbon on statue of Joe Paterno
09. Football players may transfer to any PSU branch campus without losing eligibility at main campus
08. Completely eliminate ineffective compliance office
07. Institute a strict "No Horseplay" rule in locker room showers
06. Dedicate the 2012 season opener to the victims, or whatever you want to call them
05. Cut all ties with The Second Mile as well as local NAMBLA chapter
04. Vacate all Fulmer Cup points accumulated from 2006 to 2011
03. Complete ban on "White Outs" for four years
02. Re-write the Freeh Report at school's own expense to correct all "factual errors" and remove all "unwarranted conclusions"

It looks like they were doing alright until those last two sanctions....
