Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t their defense of Paterno basically that he was far too old and stupid/oblivious (paraphrasing) to have possibly known what was going on? And the accusations against him, that were so slanderous, were basically that any normal, much less moral, human being should have done more in response to the accusations he was made directly aware of regardless of how old and stupid/oblivious he may have been at the time?

Funny that time hasn’t worn down that stupidity for some after so long.

I bet some dumbass cult fucker bids $10,000 for those glasses. Perfect to anchor a shine in the mancave for worshipping purposes.
Those things are going to end up on a sex doll and you know it.
As much as I want Fungo Squiggly to be right, I'm going to say that colobuck79 has it. Someone will spend way more than he should (let's go with $10k) for a mantelpiece, or a shrine, or some place it will be admired by visitors. He'll think he's gaining status by owning them. That whole cult organizes itself on how close they are or were to Joe Paterno. "Oh, you once attended church with the Paterno family? Well, I saw him walking through campus every day and every day he shook my hand." "Oh, you shook his hand, huh? Well, I saw him at whatever stupid ice cream shop we love and he bought me some Peachy Paterno ice cream. I never liked it before, but now, it's the only flavor I get." "Oh, he bought you ice cream, huh? Well, I own his glasses. Beat that." "..."

You're right in pointing out the defense that Paterno was portrayed as too old and unaware to know the full extent of what was happening. But, as you said, the real issue is that, regardless of his age, he was still made aware of serious accusations and failed to take meaningful action. It’s frustrating that some still try to downplay it. Time should have made it clearer, but some people just can't let go of defending him.
