Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Yeah, OSU was much happier with McCord and went in that direction over Allar. Honestly, I remember watching one of his HS ganes his Senior year and didn't quite understand what all the fuss was about. I mean, he was a big guy and was kind of difficult to tackle when he decided to run, but I wasn't really impressed.
Big guys who are also not impressive qbs are prototypical Ped State, see Christian Hackenburg.

Hackenberg... he left Penn State early, if I recall correctly. He went to the Jets or someone, and never played a down. He got cut a couple of years later and went to one of the Spring ball leagues. He started a few games and didn't win a game. Then he got benched and his backup brought the team back for a win. Then he won another game a week later. And that's the last we'll see of him.
I did enjoy seeing BWI defend him and blame it all on the offensive line, though.

I think he played for the jets briefly and was a disaster. They’ve had so many since Chad Pennington that it’s hard to keep track.

He was probably their best but seemed like an anomaly. Their typical qbs seem more like Allar or Hackenburg: big but useless.
They also only had McSorley because he was committed to Vandy when Franklin was there and followed him to PSU even though Sackenburg was already there. I always thought Franklin ruined Hackenburg. His freshman year under Bilbo O'Ballsack he looked fairly good.

He never got into an actual NFL game, only preseason games in 2 years with the Jets (‘16 & ‘17), and preseason for the Oakland Raiders in 2018.

Just looked him up. He was drafted by the Jets in the 2nd round (WTF??) and had stints with the Raiders ( of course) Eagles and Bengals. Never played a game in the NFL. He went to Memphis of the AAF, never played and is now the QB coach of Winslow Township High School in NJ, who apparently are pretty decent and are in the State Playoffs.
Wasn't he a 5* and one of the top recruits in his class when he committed to PSU?

He did play and started for Memphis.
Hackenberg struggled in his debut with the Express, his first meaningful game action since leaving Penn State. He completed just 10 of 23 passes for 87 yards and an interception before being pulled in the fourth quarter as the Express were shut out by the Birmingham Iron 26–0.[44] His poor performances continued over the next two games as he combined for 32 of 62 completed passes with three interceptions and no touchdowns; he was replaced by Zach Mettenberger during the third game against the Orlando Apollos. On February 25, Express head coach Mike Singletary announced Mettenberger would become the starting quarterback.[45] When Mettenberger was injured on March 16, Brandon Silvers, not Hackenberg, replaced him as the Express' quarterback. The same day, Memphis signed Johnny Manziel to serve as Silvers' backup.[46][47] The league ceased operations in April 2019.[48]
So he's a pile of shit for 3 games, gets pulled, and benched. Then, when the new starter got hurt, Hackenberg wasn't the replacement, meaning he was demoted to 3rd string. Then they signed Johnny Manziel to be the backup. Kind of a dig at a Heisman winner, too.
Edit: I originally said, "Kind of a dig and a Heisman winner, too." That doesn't make any sense.
