Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

https://bwi.forums.rivals.com/threads/jay-paterno-coming-up-on-paul-finebaum-at-4-15.274486/
I'm linking the thread not because it has any relevance, but I figured someone might want to see where I got the quote.

I saw him the other day and he did say that this should be especially disappointing to PSU fans and players because he thought we were a play off team this year.

"He" and "him" are referring to Paul Finebaum. Not important. But this made me think that maybe, if there's no football games for Penn State, we can see 2020 show up on their ring of pretty good years? I mean, now we have a major face of a major network saying that Penn State should be in. That's more than they'll get from their own conference. About the worst thing that can happen to Penn State now is that there actually IS a football season.

A guy I work with tried telling me this sucks because both Ohio State and Penn State had shots at the CFP. In what world? Like any year that they're ever any good, it's all fueled by a single player. This years' version already opted out. What in the fuck makes anybody think they would be a playoff team?

I get it that the comments are mostly sarcastic. But I think the sarcasm comes from some actual feelings they have.

Undefeated. I say we name them national champs.
Why do you think the b1g canceled the season?
Let's start the conspiracy theories: The B10 cancelled the season bc they didn't want to run the risk of Penn State representing the conference in the CFP.

I wouldn't say "terrifying", but definitely a cult.

COUNTER INTEL: BAMA VS. BUCKEYE BACK AND FORTH CONTINUES, KIRBY SMART CAUSES PROBLEMS FOR JAMES FRANKLIN

GEORGIA PULLS A STUNNER

The country's top JUCO cornerback has been suiting up for Pennsylvania's Lackawanna Community College. A Maryland native, De'Jahn Warren had looked like one of the sure things for James Franklin's 2021 recruiting class. The four-star is from a region Franklin is all too familiar with, has thus far spent his college days a few hours east of State College, and has long been a top PSU target.

Last Monday was Warren's 21st birthday. Shortly after midnight, he sent out a thank you tweet to the folks at Penn State.

Not long after the tweet, he became commitment No. 14 for the Georgia Bulldogs. This was yet another blow to what's been a disappointing class for James Franklin. Warren's crystal ball was 100 percent in favor of the Nittany Lions and most had already penciled him in as a potential instant-impact guy in 2021. Penn State's class has 13 commitments and sits at No. 8 in the Big Ten and No. 32 nationally. Not Great.

Not Great.

Yes it was, this couldn't happen to a nicer school.....

Most of the PSU football fans I know and talk to look at Franklin as a terrible coach and great recruiter. Bad recruiting, or even the semblance of it, is bad news for Franklin. The natives aren't overly enthralled with him anyway.

I still say if he didn't get that blocked kick bullshit in 2016 he's gone already. I've never seen one play change a guy's career like that.

To be fair to Franklin, the natives probably aren't going to like anyone who isn't Joesus, himself. But I agree. In back-to-back seasons, his team gave up double digit leads in the fourth quarter to Ohio State. And they may have been Trace McSorely making bad reads, or Ohio State making the correct reads. But no way does coaching get out of those without some or the majority of the blame. Of course, few would out-coach Urban Meyer in that situation, but in those 2 years, Kirk Ferentz did, and I don't even care who Purdue's head coach is/was - he didn't need a blocked kick to beat Ohio State, and he didn't give up a fourth quarter lead, either. And neither coach had the players Penn State did.

I think they almost lost to Minnesota the week before that game too? If I recall, he was on the verge of being like 2-4, after a couple of middling 7-6 type seasons. That damn block and all the sudden they're a top ten team for a couple seasons in a row. It's remarkable.

Edit: 7-6 in 2014. 7-6 in 2015, including a loss to Temple and 4 straight losses to end the season. He was 4-2 coming into the Buckeye game in 2016 with a one score win over Temple and an OT win over Minnesota. He was about 3 plays from being 2-5 and getting his ass canned.

Damn. Penn State fans figured out why the Big Ten cancelled the season.

https://bwi.forums.rivals.com/threa...-most-devout-big10-fans-on-this-board.275842/

So after decades of being screwed by this Conference: The stolen Bowl money, the added seconds to clock, the rigged, hand-selected (anti-PSU) refs for all big games, the lost video replays, the phantom catches, heel/toe, unequal treatment and zero punishment for Conference darlings, etc. Have you had enough yet Big10 fans?

Time to make our escape. This latest debacle may set our football program and all Penn State sports back a decade (if the SEC, Big12, and ACC pull off a fairly normal season).

Most people from there on out point out that this is stupid. But the fact that this thread exists is awesome.
