Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Throw on top of that the fact that most of us formed our opinions about what teams we wanted to root for long before we decided on our college choice, if we even went to college.

Right. I probably went to an average of 5.5 Buckeye games per year (maybe 6) from 5th grade through 12th grade. 44-48 games before college. Am I supposed to say, "Meh. I'm no longer a Buckeye fan, since I'm going to school with a Div III football team. And, to be fair, if Case Western Reserve University ever plays Ohio State in football, I'll go out and buy something that says CWRU and wear it during the game. Then I'll laugh my ass off when CWRU gives up after the first quarter, down 49-0.

And someone who didn't go to college - he/she can't/shouldn't be a fan of college sports? Lame.

It’s a Woody-given birth right to be a Buckeye fan if you are from Ohio. I bleed Scarlet and Gray as much as anybody and my degree is from another state university. I have never understood this logic that you can’t be a fan unless...
with that said my daughter is down to Ohio State and Northwestern if she gets accepted. so...Go Bucks.
Amen, Brother! My father introduced me to Buckeye Football when I was a toddler back in the early 70s. He religiously followed the team despite never attending the university. His love and passion for the school and the football program never wavered, and as I grew up in NE Ohio that love and passion for the Buckeyes grew in me as well. I have fond memories of us watching games together on television and making an annual visit (or two) to Columbus to experience a game in person.

{As an aside: if you've never had an opportunity to experience firsthand the tailgating and game against the Skunk Bears at the Shoe... it needs to be at the very top of your personal "Bucket List" because no other college football experience can hold a candle to it.}

Like my father, I didn't attend Ohio State. Instead I opted to go to a small, private university even though I was accepted at OSU. I may not have quite the same level of rightfully-earned entitlement of fandom as Ohio State alums have. After all, only Ohio State alums can truly say that the team is THEIR Buckeyes. But I do have an equal level of passion and pride in this team. They are the only college football team I have been devoted to for the 49 years I've been alive. If not being an alum places me on a lower ring of the fan ladder, so be it. I couldn't care less. Because my passion for the Buckeyes is as rock solid as it comes.

Go Bucks!

O-H

Other than the student sections of their respective stadiums, I'd wager that the majority of those in the stands for home game at Ohio State, Ped State, scUM, ND, etc., are not only non-alums but don't have a single hour of education at the respective school and only even set foot on campus on game days.

I work in Altoona. Gonna start asking questions about the academic history of any and all Ped state fans I encounter.

I assume your first question will be, "Did you graduate 8th grade?" You can adjust as needed off that. Not sure you will get to the question about graduating community college let alone PSU.

Penn State DT Antonio Shelton gets one-game suspension

Penn State starting defensive tackle Antonio Shelton will be suspended for the Nittany Lions' Nov. 9 game against Minnesota, coach James Franklin announced Tuesday night.

Shelton appeared to spit on a Michigan State player and was ejected at the 7:30 mark of the fourth quarter against the Spartans on Saturday. The Big Ten released a statement saying the conference supports Shelton's one-game suspension.

"The Big Ten Conference office announced today that it publicly reprimands Penn State football player Antonio Shelton for violating the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy during a game against Michigan State on Oct. 26," a press release said.

Easy.
"I'm not a fan of any of those teams. I'm a fan of the Penn State players in the league."

I mean, you're not wrong, but I fucking HATE the Browns. Even though that's my team. People ask me if I'm a Browns fan, and I say no, I fucking hate them. They blocked me on FB for cussing them out so much.

So I root for Buckeyes in the League, and I root for the Saints because they have the most Buckeyes of any team in the League.

And fuck the Browns for literally not drafting a single player from Ohio State from the 4th round in 2007 (Robiskie, whose daddy was the WR coach at that time) until 2018 when they drafted Denzel Ward.

Hey, dumbasses! You have one of the greatest football factories EVER 150 miles away. You might want to scout them occasionally.

Stupid fucks.
