Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

I thought the same at first but he's really not that bad

to @BuckeyeNation27 point, in relative terms to 409 nation he's remarkably well adjusted

I whole heartedly agree... He makes valid points against the NCAA (and strokes my never ending disdain for the organization) pertaining the PSU case, it's just so difficult separating the emotion of wanting to nuke them based on the monstrosity of the crimes committed while understanding the actual scope and power the NCAA has been granted.

It's just really difficult to view in a vacuum.

The NCAA's authority didn't matter. Penn State agreed to the sanctions based on the Sandusky case. But I agree, 409fold is no JoePed cultist - the cultists hate him.

When the NCAA handed down the sanctions they listed the sections of the NCAA code that were violated. This was the worst case of lack of institutional control in the history of the sport. This was a case of a football coach literally controlling the institution and covering up the worst kind of criminal activity in order to protect the football program.

We all know what happened. If the Paternos or the cultists wish to share "The Truth," I'm ready to see the evidence. Problem is, they don't have any. They can't handle the truth. The truth they seek is one that exonerates Joe and that just doesn't exist. They can't wrap their heads around the fact that Joe wasn't a saint so they won't let themselves believe what is so easy for everyone else to see.

They should be ashamed that in his final decade the coach was more important than the program. The program would have had more success if they had replaced Joe when he was 70. But they kept him on, eking out lower-than-necessary win totals just for the sake of Joe's record. Better for Joe to have a 5 or 6 win season than for someone else to have a 10 or 11 win season and compete for a championship. The success of the team was sacrificed for the sake of Joe's record and there is no honor in that. That's exactly the opposite of how the game is supposed to be played and it wasn't fair to the players. But it wasn't about the players anymore. It was all about Joe and some children got raped who could have been protected if it wasn't. Fuck all of 'em.

For the hell of it, I just started reading the Freeh report. Gotta say, that thing is far more damaging than I realized. Whether or not you believe the NCAA should have been involved, I can see how PSU leadership wanted no part of arguing that out in public in a protracted fight (although the Joebots have given them that anyway). I'm guessing they felt it better to take they're medicine and move on. Until someone shows me evidence that the NCAA was blackmailing the school with stronger sanctions, I tend to believe they entered into that agreement voluntarily.

Correct...then when the theat of a lawsuit was forthcoming the NCAA capitulated and rescinded many of the penalties bc of the overreaching.

Now, the NCAA could've won that anyway, but in an attempt to keep additional lawyers nosing around their books and processes they declined....Not a good look.

Anyway, 409fold really is good people...much better (and more attached to reality) than the majority of PSU alumni base here in Philly.
