Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

I have to say something here, and don't know if this is the right thread or not. But one can look at the major elements of this situation, the crimes committed, the coverup, the exposition, the hero worship, the cultish collective damage control, the pejorative denial of wrongdoing by a supposed hero that the vast majority of the loudest people never met...and hope this was restricted to this one group of people. But I just read an article, and the subsequent hundreds of comments, about the Duggars, and Josh Duggar in particular, and had to make sure it wasn't BWI. All of the same elements of the claimed denial...minimaztion, other people are jealous, anyone will tear down a hero...were present in droves. But this time, its nor restricted to a school, or religious sect...its a large cross-section of people saying things you can't believe you are reading. I am a giant pessimist, but this really, really makes me realize we are all, as a society, exponentially more fucked than I ever realized.

Sorry, carry on, I just thought the parallels were frightening.

If by "society" you mean "species", I hear you. The level of ignorance and idiocy that seems to be increasingly common, but still not the norm, in our society is par for the course in many others.

Too many people put their own ideology out in front of basic logic when it comes to polarizing or personally important issues, whether it's football or anything else...

No idea who the fuck Josh Duggar is but from your post its example #79863546354 of why I am better off for completely tuning out anything related to our popular culture.

I don't know how many of you are familiar with the Milton Hershey School, which is part of a huge corporate entity (HERCO) that also includes Hershey Park, the Hershey Bears AHL hockey team and the candy manufacturing arm of the company. Anyway, Philadelphia Inquirer writer Bob Fernandez has written extensively in recent years about the corruption at Hershey and the exploitation of poor children for profit by the Milton Hershey school.

None of the Harrisburg (Pa.) area media dares pull back the facade on the saintly Hershey image (where have we heard that before), but Fernandez has just come out with what looks like a fascinating book detailing the corruption and exploitation at Hershey. Naturally, Penn St. is a part of such corruption and exploitation of poor children. Apparently, Jerry helped so many underprivileged children that weren't even enough orphans in America to help anymore.

"The author also discloses how monies generated by Hershey's assets have created temptations for those overseeing the Trust, including when Trust and state officials diverted tens of millions of dollars earmarked for the students welfare into a medical center for Pennsylvania State University, claiming there were not enough orphans in America to help."

It blows my mind that a K-12 school for underprivileged children has $12 billion in assets. :yow1:

"THE CHOCOLATE TRUST is full of hard-hitting stories. But the saddest truth of all is that it also sheds light on the corruption, and the complicity of the government and court officials in that corruption, within one of the world s richest philanthropies. The Milton Hershey School claims to spend $100,000 a year on each pupil. In reality, it is a revolving door of poor kids controlled by a politicized and underachieving board whose members personally benefit from the positions they hold."

So the pattern I am seeing is that being a poor kid in PA means you a pretty likely to get fucked by some one who is purportedly there to help you.

The more saintly they present themselves the deeper they seem to stick it.

Pun intended? Sandusky did have a big nose. That means he stuck it pretty deep.

If we are top believe MM who is known, by every living person in Happy Valley, to be a pathological liar.

A thinking person observes the lack of blood and or scarring and questions if these "victims", or whatever you want to call them, were actually even raped. After all, it isn't illegal to soap up/engage in general shower time horse play with underage boys.

I mean who, as an underage teen, hasn't been alone in a shower with an adult male and been bear hugged and soaped up? It's practically a right of passage.
