Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

[...]It's not even related to athletics at all....but of course this is Penn State we're talking about, so it's always about the football team or women's volleyball (because they would really care about women's volleyball if they weren't the only school that was any good at it).[...]
Olbermann could've been more definitive in his tweets by addressing the distinction between fundraising efforts and the shit that went down in the football program. He could've replied to the "We Are!" tweet with something like "...great at fund raising but not so good at protecting boys from abuse."

Absolutely. That's likely the reason for the public apology and suspension. But he probably still feels the same way I do about those shits. I mean.....how evil of a program are you when I see you raising money to fight cancer, and I just want to hit you with my car because of your blue sweatshirt?

Here's my deal with THON....which has been shoved in my face as a motorist in the state of PA for nearly a decade...maybe more. It's amazing that people can raise that much money for charity, especially for one that fights cancer in children. However, and I know adding a "however" to something like this seems petty or cruel or whatever, they use it as a weapon. Say something bad about Penn State? THON THON THON THON THON. Suggest Penn State might not have children's best interests at heart? THON THON THON THON. They're using cancer in children as a shield for practically anything negative their athletes do. It's not even related to athletics at all....but of course this is Penn State we're talking about, so it's always about the football team or women's volleyball (because they would really care about women's volleyball if they weren't the only school that was any good at it).

In the end, the results completely outweigh the negatives by a factor of about a billion. But go in the mind of the Penn State student who tweeted the amounts at Olbermann. Why do you think he was doing it? What was his tweet really saying to Keith? I'd bet all the amount of THON money that it was more "Look at how righteous Penn State football is" and less "Look at what great things can be accomplished".

Agreed. Just from what I know of Penn State fans (as I've said before, this is only from what I've seen on BWI and on Audibles), I'd guess that approximately 99% of the $13 million was donated as a "let's show the world how awesome Penn State is", and 1% was "let's donate to fight cancer". In the end, $13 million is $13 million, and, as long as it was obtained legally, I shouldn't complain how it was obtained.

And the Cult wins again. Olbermann has now apparently been suspended for a week over his PSU tweets. He has also apparently been forced to grovel to The Cult on Twitter.

"We are aware of the exchange Keith Olbermann had on Twitter last night regarding Penn State. It was completely inappropriate and does not reflect the views of ESPN. We have discussed it with Keith, who recognizes he was wrong. ESPN and Keith have agreed that he will not host his show for the remainder of this week and will return on Monday. The annual tradition of THON and the efforts of the students of Penn State to fight pediatric cancer should be applauded."

@KeithOlbermann: "I apologize for the PSU tweets. I was stupid and childish and way less mature than the students there who did such a great fundraising job."

Disgusting. Penn State again told that it is ok to support the raping of children.

This is spot on and the reason that everyone assumed they were above criticism until the shower incident. The Sandusky thing allows everyone to get a closer look at what really went on in State College. No reporting of campus crime to the feds. Football players being handled outside the normal student judicial system. No NCAA compliance officer for football. Football coach dictating the escalation policy for reporting a former employee in the shower with a minor. Nearly 120 recommendations that have been implemented as a result of the Freeh Report. All gaps that needed addressed and contributed to the culture issues - many major. Yes, THON seems like a nice cause but it's is not an answer for every wrong that transpired at PSU for the last 30 years.

Seriously, fuck THON. You want to donate to cancer research, you don't give it to some fourth tier hospital doing fourth tier research in Hershey PA. Pitt has a comprehensive cancer center (the same as Ohio State and the Cleveland Clinic). That's where you give it because that hospital and research institute does more in a single day to advance cancer treatment and the find for cures than PSU-Hershey has ever accomplished in its entire existence.

Wow! Did the BOT take little boys into the shower and play hide the wienie? Did they take kids to bowl games and have them sleep in the same room? Did Joesus report Sandusky to the BOT when the AD and President turned a blind eye?
