06 was the start of this nonsense. It has always been about the BCS.EidoloN;1630526; said:Unfortunately, people don'l look at the last 5-10 years, they look at the last 2-3. The Big10 IS in a national spotlight on not being a good conference, not just the Bucks.

Ohio State has been consistently ranked the highest out of all the teams with the same amount of losses as them over the years.
If they are the kings of a weak conference, why does that ranking make sense? If the conference is simply weak top to bottom why does it consistently put 2 representatives in the BCS year out? 2006 was the beginning of the end, and it was all simply a coincidence of SEC wins and Big 10 losses...
The media LOVES to hype teams up to win...and they've done their fair share of hyping just about everyone and every conference over the last 10 years...
It just so happens that they've found the conference who's fans will buy into the hype the hardest, loudest, and frugalest (yes I made that word up).

Let's take a look at the 2 annual matchups between the lowly B10 & SEC, even in your 3 year span.
06 - The big ten wins both of these games, but OSU gets smoked and the SEC hyperbole takes off. UM losing badly to SC also contributed, but the SEC has very comparable results vs the Trojans, though they've been fortunate to never face them for a NC.
07 - stumbling Michigan takes down Tim Tebow weeks after his heisman presentation. Two rare fumbles from hart prevent a rout. The other bowl features Tenn edging out Wisky. Once again, two very good outings by the b10, but since OSU loses to the SEC, the conference is somehow exposed as uncompetitive.
08 - Iowa houses SCar. Georgia pulls away from MSU late. OSU loses a close one to Texas, so the conference takes a hit.
09 - worst talent in the conference NW shuts down the SEC's best offense and almost pull out the victory. And now PSU is trying to win a very close one.
Like I said, an unsubstantiated lie that took flight once the B10 was no longer a possible cash cow.
