RumblingsAs Penn State prepares for Illinois, some players apparently are motivated by the Illini?s willingness to send coaches to State College, Pa., to speak with players about transferring after the Jerry Sandusky scandal.
Illinois was the only Big Ten team to snag a Penn State transfer ? reserve offensive lineman Ryan Nowicki ? but a majority of Big Ten coaches said they would have considered pursuing a player if contacted first, as Illini coach Tim Beckman said Nowicki did.
Still, eight Illinois assistant coaches went to State College two days after the NCAA sanctions were announced in July. They waited at a coffee shop and a restaurant for Penn State players who were interested in talking.
Defensive tackle Jordan Hill and fullback Mike Zordich told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that they didn?t have any extra motivation for Illinois, but that others on the team did. Hill said after last week?s win over Temple that some players were already talking about Illinois.
