Peach Bowl: #1 Georgia vs #4 tOSU, Sat 12/31 8 ET on ESPN

I agree regarding 2020 Clemson, although even then we started out slow and uneasy. But vs Utah we were awful, like “didnt show up” awful. Had it not been for Utah being decimated at DB, I doubt we win.

Outside of AJ Terrell being drafted after the 2019 season, Clemson had a secondary full of future NFL players who had to move to either LB or nickel safety from DB. The rest at that point were underclassmen like Andrew Booth and Derion Kendrick. So they might not have had it as bad as Utah did, but when you matchup the talent at WR tOSU had vs what Clemson fielded on defense, anything less than going bombs away would have been a crime.

I was watching the Alamo Bowl last night. They were talking about how Quinn Ewers said he doesn’t feel like a freshman and how much he learned in the QB room at OSU from Ryan Day and CJ Stroud, watching how concepts were communicated, learning how to watch film, etc.

I saw Ewers tuck the ball a couple of times last night and run for big first downs, one for 10 yds across the field to the sideline on a crucial late drive. I thought to myself, “He didn’t learn that from CJ Stroud!”

Always fun to watch Texas lose. And if Ewers wants to continue to fail, that’d be just fine by me.

Shame that a kid like Ewers will never see the CFP. He's really talented but even his better players around him let him down pretty frequently (drops last night for example). Can't blame him for leaving but IMO him skipping his senior year was a massive mistake.

Yeah, chasing NIL money hasn’t served him well. He has all the physical tools. And yeah, his receivers let him down with some dropped passes. But he also too often overthrows receivers who are open. And when he needs to show leadership and fire under pressure, he doesn’t show it. He made some poor decisions late in the game last night. The announcers were talking at one point in the game about how he’s not a fiery guy and how that’s just his personality.

Maybe that’s something he learned from CJ.

Getting rid of the HS school haircut would be a good start for his leadership.

RYAN DAY
  • Day says "it's been a great week for our guys. ... I think everything here has been very convenient for our players." Day says the Buckeyes were "able to get in and out of places very fast."
  • Day says physicality is "to be expected in a game like this." Day says "it's gonna be that kind of atmosphere" in a game like this and that "our guys have been practicing that way."
  • On Paris Johnson Jr.'s letter in the Players' Tribune, Day says he thought it was "well-written" and says he's proud of Johnson.
  • "This is the exact situation we saw ourselves in" at the beginning of the season.
  • Day says "Georgia's defense is complete. ... You see the statistics, you see the way they've played all year." Day says the Buckeyes must execute at a high level.
  • On expectations, Day says they're at "the highest level" at Ohio State and Georgia. Day says he identifies those who want to achieve that during recruiting. "That's been going on for a long time here at Ohio State."
  • On Miyan Williams: "Back to practice yesterday, so he'll be ready to go."
  • Day says it's "very important" for the Big Ten to have two teams in the CFP and that the "level of play in the Big Ten has improved in my time."
  • Day says Smart and his staff do "a great job of working at" the recruiting trail. "When you're recruiting against Georgia, you gotta bring in."
  • Day says the time between games has been great because it's allowed the Buckeyes to fill their depth like spring practice.
  • Asked about players getting a bonus for playing in the CFP, Day believes they should, but declines to put a number on what that value would be.
  • Day says "the best recruiting is winning," and that one of the best things about being in the CFP is that it gets the program national exposure. Day says when changes like NIL or the transfer portal are made, "you don't see the ripple effects until a couple years down the road." Day says college football must be careful with the changes it makes moving forward.
  • Day says there's a point where you can "overdo it" in terms of studying your opponent when you have this much time off before a game.
  • On how much the scare after the Michigan game could help Ohio State, Day says it "we'll see tomorrow night" and that he's pleased with how the Buckeyes have looked in practice. "It has been a great month."
  • "We're just gonna play as hard as we possibly can, you can't worry about (the pressure) in a game like this."
  • Day says "recruiting never ends," but that "this game is about these players" on the current team.

Moving on…

Listening to Maurice Clarett talk about how these games don’t just fall on the players and how much shit he’s talked to Ryan Day about getting this team prepared for this one is hilarious.

He’s going off the deep end.

He says “Next man up? Same thing with coaches!!”

He’s now standing up out of his chair and talking about beat TSUN or get out. THIS IS OHIO STATE. I’m not mad at it. Now he’s arguing with Tyvis…

Edit: Ok, you need to watch this video. Don’t pass it up. Maurice has some connection issues at one point, but trust me… you need to watch this.

And to think that for years I thought of MoC as a dumb jock. I'm ashamed.
