Peach Bowl: #1 Georgia vs #4 tOSU, Sat 12/31 8 ET on ESPN

It still was a hard hit. I thought it wasn't targeting myself when I saw the replay during the game but I've seen less egregious hits called and upheld. It could've and maybe should've been targeting but he led with his shoulder and Marv was falling trying to make the catch.

Wade shouldn't have been ejected because Lawrence ducked and the kid from UGA shouldn't have been ejected because Marvin was falling which left no other target area for the defender.

There's just no consistency unfortunately.
Wade's was against a QB. If that same hit had been made against Stroud or Bennett, there would have been an ejection.

Yeah I don't think the guy was headhunting or anything he made a hard hit high to try to seperate him from the ball.

I think it was to head and neck area and was appalled that the rent a ref said it was definitively not. That's some bull shit especially when it looked like their helmets incidently collided. It was high.
I'm not upset about the Bowers thing. He got it once I realized his foot didn't slide out like I thought.

I was far more pissed about the timeout. Cause while Kirby signalled for it before the snap the there is one angle that clearly shows the red didn't acknowlege it till the ball was halfway to rossi. However I suddenly became far less pissed about it once the pictures with us having 12 on the field came out lol

I thought it didn't have to only be to the head/neck area to be targeting anyways?

Joey Bosa got ejected from the Fiesta Bowl vs ND for drilling Kizer in the chest........

I guess some refs do carry the logic though that it "cant be targeting" if its not a direct hit to the head. Ridiculous. Unless there was a rule change I don't know about? As long as you are leading with the head it's targeting no matter where you hit the player.

that was bc it was the “crown of the helmet” component of the rule. And that was a love tap, he hardly got drilled.

Steve Helwagon investigated the overturn of the targeting call (article link) on Bullard about as much as possible and came up empty with respect to getting a straight answer. And Ryan Day spoke publically about it for it for, I think the first time, recently and his comments are in the article. Don't know about y'all, but the overturn of that call is still a big deal to me; it's the biggest factor in my intent to, as of now, avoid investing a single minute of my time watching any game next season until the final game.

Pretty much me too. Like I posted elsewhere I'm tired of good things happening to shitty people. Fuck the entire state of Georgia...and tsun

Damn this game is hard to rewatch after the first few drives.

Had them 21-7 and had them behind the sticks on the next drive. SMH...

Without question this one trumps Clemson 2019 as the biggest heart breaker to me.

Agreed! Both games had multiple bad calls go against us but we played better in this game. I have zero doubt we win this ship vs 2019 would’ve been unlikely against LSU. If Marv doesn’t get the BS targeting hit against him and knocked out, Georgia does not come back to win that game. I’ll also give credit to this Georgia team and their coaches. Never rattled and made the plays.

Yep 100%

I even ran into a UGA fan at the gym shortly after that game. Introduced myself and told him I was a Buckeye fan... he looked away and then back to me as if he was saying "damn we were lucky" and then just said "the real Natty this year was between our teams."

We really gave our best and in the end UGA made one more play than we did. I don't even think they got more breaks because we had a few too.

Overall its just uncanny how badly we blow things when it matters.

Blew it 2012, 2013, 2015, 2019 and now in 2023. That's not even including losing the title games in 2006, 2007 and 2021.

I disagree. Yeah, it was tough, but Ohio State, in my opinion, never should have a spot in a 4-team playoff after losing to *ichigan. They were playing with house money.

The Buckeyes didn't blow anything in 2012, unless you consider their attempt to say "eff you, NCAA" by not self-imposing a post-season ban in 2011. I think the NCAA still would've taken away Ohio State's post-season in 2012, but giving up the 2011 season might have been better than just guessing that the NCAA was happy with letting Ohio State go without any bans.

And, not to sound like I'm arguing, why didn't you include 2018?
And also, Ohio State didn't lose the title game in 2021. At least, not in the 2021 season. It was in January 2021, but the 2020 season. If that's what you were going for, then they didn't lost the title game in 2006 - they lost it in 2007 and 2008. Those were the 2006 and 2007 seasons.

Agree with all of the above. I'm assuming 2018 wasn't included because we got curb stomped by Purdue and were atrocious on D. That felt like a season that was salvaged from complete disaster

2012 because we would've beat ND had we self imposed a ban in 2011 (unless we would've been banned anyways like you mention). UGA was worse than Clemson imo because we similarly had UGA beat but mainly because we would've beat TCU handily for another title.

I didn't include 2018 because that team was severely flawed on defense. Also yes I was talking about seasons for 2006 and 2007.

Your point is fair.

Also, we could go back farther:
2003 - beat *ichigan and there would have been 4 1-loss teams. Maybe Ohio State gets in ahead of LSU or Oklahoma?
1998 - boofjob against Michigan State. Could that team have beaten Tennessee? Maybe.
1996 - boofjob against *ichigan. I forget who was #1 - Florida or Florida State. One team beat the other and then they rematched in the national championship game and the other team won.

That's as far back as I can go on my own, since I started watching in 1986. But how about 1979? Their only loss was in the Rose Bowl.
Or 1973. Their only failure was the tie against *ichigan. And people (*ichigan whiners) like to complain that *ichigan out-played Ohio State in that game. But that's all it is - whining.
1969 - another boof loss to *ichigan kept them out of a championship. (They wouldn't have been required or even able to play the bowl game.)
