Patriots(-6.5) at Jets

Did the Patriots Cheat?

Sources: Camera confiscated after claims of Pats spying on Jets

NFL security confiscated a video camera and its tape from a New England Patriots employee on the team's sideline during Sunday's game against the Jets in a suspected spying incident, sources said.
The camera and its tape were placed in a sealed box and forwarded to the league office for investigation, the sources said.

"We don't have any comment," an NFL spokesman said Monday.

The Patriots' cameraman was suspected of aiming his camera at the Jets' defensive coaches who were sending signals to their unit on the field, the sources said. The league also is investigating some radio frequency issues that occurred during the game.

The league's competition committee could conduct a conference call about the incident, which violates NFL policy, and ultimately recommend a penalty that could cost the Patriots a future draft pick or picks if it verifies that the team was spying on the Jets.

This reminds me of the Patriot's greatest cheating achievement:

1982 - New England Patriots 3 Miami Dolphins 0 - The Snow Plow Game. Ron Meyer instructs a prison work release worker to use his snow plow to clear a spot for John Smith to attempt the game winning field goal. The Patriots use the win as a catalyst to qualify for the playoffs.

No wonder these guys win so much. If this is true, how stupid was this for them to do this against a team that is coached by a guy who I am sure knew that they were doing this?? Or is it just continued arrogance by Belicheck?

Pats Lies and Videotapes is the Herald's headline. Anyway, the radio stations were ripping in to them this morning. But, the worst part of it all is... they don't really need that edge. With Randy Moss, Tom Brady, Vrable, Seymour, Seau and now Adalius Thomas, it's a damn shame.

Yeah, that was kinda stupid on his part. Funny though.

I agree, I laughed when I first heard it. However, he's making a rivalry where there really isn't one, 4 years ago the pats came to Qualcomm and lost, last year they beat us in the playoffs, it happens. We just need to go out and win games, not fire up the other team, also the have quite a few ex-Chargers on the Pats, Seau and Harrison, well, I guess Harrison kind of proves his theory, that guy is one of the dirtiest players I have ever seen, probably the only guy to suit up in S.D. colors and make me wish he wasn't a Charger.

Patriots = Cheaters?

ESPN - Sources: Goodell determines Patriots broke rules - NFL

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has determined that the New England Patriots violated league rules Sunday when they videotaped defensive signals by the New York Jets' coaches, league sources have told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

NFL security officials confiscated a camera and videotape from Patriots video assistant Matt Estrella on the New England sidelines when it was suspected he was recording the Jets' defensive signals. Sources say the visual evidence confirmed the suspicion.

Goodell is considering severe sanctions, including the possibility of docking the Patriots "multiple draft picks" because it is the competitive violation in the wake of a stern warning to all teams since he became commissioner, the sources said. The Patriots have been suspected in previous incidents.

The Patriots will be allowed an opportunity to present their case by Friday, sources said, most likely via the telephone.

The league also was reviewing a possible violation into the number of radio frequencies the Patriots were using during Sunday's game, sources said. The team did not have a satisfactory explanation when asked about possible irregularities in its communication setup during the game.

I hope they add a swift kick to the balls for Brady just for good measure.

Well it's deffinately interesting, now people will look back at the Pats games and evaluate thier halftime adjustments, how much of that was knowing the defense? And with the whole radio frequencies issue, if they are listening in on what the QB calls then what? I mean that's pretty serious, maybe it's just me but that seems a lot more serious as it's not the coach saying "here's an extra grand, photograph that dude" it's something the staff, beyond a few people, had to know about.
