all wins starting from 2002 need to be taken away.

Was that the year of the infamous "tuck rule?"

This does bring into question all of thier success though, how many teams have been knocked out of the playoffs due to "halftime adjustments" by the pats? How long has something like this gone on? And realistically, how serious of a violation is it?

To me it's very serious, but to a lot of people I have seen around other boards it varies, some act like it's nothing major others seem to be about on my level but most just don't seem to care. Were they doing this back when the Raiders met them in the AFC championship? Were they doing this last year in the playoffs?

They point out that last year the Colts wouldn't allow any team cameras on the sidelines for either team, and they pulled off the win against the Pats, how many teams knew about this but never said anything?

It's some interesting food for thought if nothing else.

ESPN - Clayton: Goodell will treat this seriously - NFL

What rules did the Patriots allegedly violate?
The "Game Operations Manual" states that "no video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches' booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game." The manual states that "all video shooting locations must be enclosed on all sides with a roof overhead." NFL security officials confiscated a camera and videotape from a New England video assistant on the Patriots' sideline when it was suspected he was recording the Jets' defensive signals. Taping any signals is prohibited. The toughest part usually is finding evidence to support an allegation.

What could the punishment be?
Goodell must come down hard on this one because he clearly has evidence. ESPN has reported that Goodell is considering severe sanctions, including the possibility of docking the Patriots "multiple draft picks." That could mean a combination of a second-rounder and something else, maybe a fifth-rounder. The commissioner could push the penalty over two years, but he can't treat this lightly by just taking away a second-day draft choice. The Patriots are good. They had only two draft choices -- a first- and a second-round pick -- make the team this season. Fining them just a fourth-round choice wouldn't hurt them much.

I had to laugh at all of the people on ESPN and the radio coming out with the "well everybody does it" argument. If that's the case, I'd like to know what the hell the Cowboys' cameraman's been doing during games for the past 11 years. Someone might wanna tip off Roy and Anthony about that deep-ball before Plaxico Burress scores again.

Honestly, couldn't happen to a more arrogant jackass than Bill Belichick. I hope he gets banned from the league completely. The only thing that leads me to believe that they haven't been cheating all along is that they were doing it, in the open, against the Jets. After being in the organization, you would think Mangini would know something about it.

Schefter: NFL determined Patriots have violated rules

NEW YORK -- After looking into claims a New England Patriots employee was videotaping signals by Jets coaches on New York's sideline during the season opener, the NFL has determined that the Patriots have violated rules governing the usage of video tape on sidelines, reports the NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

Schefter also reports that the league plans on summoning New England coach Bill Belichick to its offices in New York this week to discuss the matter, and that possible punishment being considered by the NFL include fines, loss of draft picks and suspensions.

The investigation was first reported by ESPN.com, which said that NFL security confiscated a video camera and tape from a Patriots employee during New England's 38-14 victory Sunday. The employee was accused of aiming his camera at the Jets' defensive coaches, who were sending signals out to the players, sources told the Web site.

This one is actually from NFL.COM and not ESPiN so it's a little more credible.

ESPN - Belichick issues apology in wake of signal taping - NFL

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Patriots coach Bill Belichick apologized Wednesday for the commotion surrounding his team following accusations that his club spied on the Jets during New England's season-opening victory in New York.

Belichick said he spoke with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell this week about a "videotaping procedure" during last Sunday's game and "my interpretation of the rules."

"At this point, we have not been notified of the league's ruling," Belichick said in a statement. "Although it remains a league matter, I want to apologize to everyone who has been affected, most of all ownership, staff and players. Following the league's decision, I will have further comment."

At a news conference, Belichick refused to answer questions about the accusations, saying he said all he could in his statement. When pressed for a response, Belichick replied: "Are there any questions about the Chargers? Anyone want to talk about the football game?"

Heard on SportsCenter that Mangini arrived at the Jets with inside knowledge about how the patriots cheated, but it took until now to catch them.

That means Hoodie's "genius" has actually been linked to cheating for this season and the two beforehand. Why would we assume he hasn't been cheating for much longer than that?
