Parallels between '77 OU and '05 Texas games

  • We had never played Oklahoma before the 1977 game. OU went up early, only to have OSU rally to take the lead, and then win it on a last-second FG.

Fast forward to 2005. We had never played Texas before. Texas goes up early, we rally to take the lead, only to have Texas come back and win it late.

Why bring this up? Because in the OU rematch, we went in to Norman and dominated to win 24-14 (the game wasn't as close as the score would suggest). So, in my mind, we have a good shot in Austin next year.

Wasn't it a 50+ yd field by Uwe VonSchmann that won it. Huston just missed by a foot, tonight!:oh:

I think with D'Andrea granted a medical redshirt from last season and both Kerr and Freeman stepping up to the challenge of replacing one of OSUs top 5 LB Corps ever - we should be set up nicely. The keys wont hender on whether Young stays or goes pro, like most think. If our younger guys can step up like they seem to be with some PT this year, we will be good to go next year.

Wish I could agree. If VY stays he will absolutely shred a defense that will be breaking in 8 or 9 new starters. They are all very talented but you don't just replace Hawk, Carpenter and company without some hiccups.

Before reading this thread, the emotions that I went through today, (well it's today where I'm at), was the national championship game, without the overtimes. Opponent jumps up early, Bucks adjust and weather the storm, play solid for the next two quarters, create turnovers, but are unable to put the game away, and then, finally, the opponent comes back to, in today's case, to win the game. Throw in key field goals by both opponents that, at least on T.V., looked really close. We also missed late field goals in both games that would have been huge. Obviously, I liked the final result of the first game better.

Oh, I said they would have to be a challenge, but I think the leadership the boys are showing the underclassmen as well as techniques and showmenship. The biggest replacements will be for the LB Corps, obviously. But who would had thought 3 star AJ Hawk would make us Buckeye fans (momentarilly) forget about stud LB Matt Willhelm? Everett will be a dissapointing loss, but Malcom Jenkins has shown good stride for a truse freshman. Gholston is still a SO. Green and Kudla are seniors, BUT Joel Penton is a well versed JR, as well as Patterson, Pitcock, Terry (SO) and Jay Richardson. Im very excited to see Doug Worthington and Lawrence Wilson in a game to get some experience. We seem to be pretty well off with talent for next year in the DLine and secondary (if Youboty stays).

I told my wife that the last time a loss felt this bad was '96 against scUM.

In JT's fifth season at the helm - by my off the cuff count - we have lost only 2 'big games'...'03 scUM and '05 vs. UT.

I want to win them all, but I know we can't.

It hurts to lose this way b/c we dont lormally lose this way under JT - i.e. close game in the last minute.

I'm nervous that if VY comes back next year, and we lose our LB's, we'll fall to 0-2 against UT.

I'm hoping for a rematch in a bowl game, and victory in the rubber match next year so come out on top 2-1. (I can dream can I?) :-)

its still a year away, both teams lose alot but even i think it is a bit early to predict who plays great or not.
Texas will lose 3 Sr starters on O, (2 OL and TE)
4 on D.(DT, LB, SS and FS)
    Punter
    2(weird) FG kickers.

It will be another historic game, y'all will enjoy or little:wink2: stadium.

wow... i did not get that feeling AT ALL... the kids played great, we just came up a couple yards short... we still have 10 more games to go... we can still have a great season...

the '96 game ruined our season...
i suspect the experience of the Texas game will make our season...
