Parallels between '77 OU and '05 Texas games

We had never played Oklahoma before the 1977 game. OU went up early, only to have OSU rally to take the lead, and then win it on a last-second FG.

Fast forward to 2005. We had never played Texas before. Texas goes up early, we rally to take the lead, only to have Texas come back and win it late.

Why bring this up? Because in the OU rematch, we went in to Norman and dominated to win 24-14 (the game wasn't as close as the score would suggest). So, in my mind, we have a good shot in Austin next year.

Mili, I was thinking about the similarities between the two games also. I sure hope were able to even things up in DKR next year.

And it was a 41-yard field goal in 1977. Just for the sake of accuracy. :wink2:

wow... i did not get that feeling AT ALL... the kids played great, we just came up a couple yards short... we still have 10 more games to go... we can still have a great season...

the '96 game ruined our season...
i suspect the experience of the Texas game will make our season...

I agree it was a fantastic game and we played our hearts out - but when VY threw the last TD it was like someone knocked the wind out of me, and I'm a classic 'it's not over till it's over' kind of guy.

I was so into this game emotionally too...I'm in the huddle...I'm calling plays...I'm talking to JT on the headset...I'm sweating...I'm getting my ankle taped...I'm there...man I need a life!

The '96 scUM game did ruin our season, and there are major differences I know...but the one similiarity...3 times in the redzone and only 9 points to show for it...we could have won...if only...if only...

The drama of it all...CFB is so cool.:oh:

Well, its been 48 hours and hopefully I'm done being a whiny, crying little be'atch.

The 77 OU game was the first thing I thought of comparing this game to, but the more I think about it I really don't see that close of a comparison except for the fact that we lost our first meeting with a storied program.

Prior to Uwe's "41" yard game winning field goal, THAT was a game that we simply pissed away. "Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" so to say. This game was different, in that we simply let Texas hang around way too long in a game that should have been a blowout. Honest to Christ, when Hamby did his "double dribble" I knew they would lose. Texas is loaded, their interior line play is dominant. We stayed alive with FG's off of turnovers. They had the savvy to keep us out of the end-zone. Gotta give them a ton of credit for that, otherwise they lose about 34-16.

As great a game as it was, it really sucks that one of these two pretty much gets knocked out in week #2. It's a long season, but it would have been nice for scUM and Iowa to keep winning, would have at least given us a chance to move up in the polls. Now, we gotta hope for alot of shit to happen. We'll see.

I thought about the OU game both before and after the Texas game.
1) First time ever meeting between a pair of top ten all-time programs.
2) First meeting of home and home was in Columbus.
3) Both teams had top 5 rankings.
4) Bucks should have won both, but lost both at the end.
