That's a funny picture. Actually, I'm not a Tribe fan, but nice try. I have, however, gotten sick of Guillen thinking that he can say whatever he wants whenever he wants. IMO, there is no room for such behavior, particularly by a manager (who is supposed to be an authority figure who represents his team), on the baseball field. It says very, very little for his character. There was actually a good SI article on him a few months ago.

I don't particularly like Guillen, but I applaud him for his candor and complete unwillingness to extend needless courtesies to spineless little weasels like Jay Mariotti. Courtesies like...you know. Like not calling him a piece of shit.

I am certain that when Ozzie Guillen calls Jay Mariotti a gay piece-of-shit, he does so on behalf of not only the White Sox, but also the Cubs, the Bears, the Bulls, the Blackhawks, the Illini, the city of Chicago, and 86% of the viewers of ESPN.

You may agree with what Guillen had to say, but are you seriously trying to say that you think the White Sox are happy with what he said and how it makes them look having their manager make such statements? I know if I were a White Sox fan, I'd be embarrassed.

They are tow different kind of people. Ozzie is a talker, if Tressel were to come out and say something like that, it'd be earth shattering.
Plus you're forgetting a big difference, one is a college coach; and the other is a pro coach.
Replace your story with a bengals or a browns coach (whichever people like) and I doubt people would be embarressed.
For the record I wouldn't want Ozzie as a college coach, but i'm proud he is coaching the White Sox.

Good point.

Another big difference between the Tressel/Guillen hypothetical is that there is nobody in the Columbus media who is nearly as critical of Tressel and the Buckeyes as Mariotti has been of Guillen and the Sox.

If Tressel called Tim May a piece of shit, yeah, that'd be a shocker; but don't think there wouldn't be a damn parade if Tressel called Mark May a piece of shit, or Tom Friend a fag.

Let's not forget who Ozzie was talking about here. Mariotti is just some media head, who gives a shit? In fact, members of the media deserved to get called out more often for some of the stuff they report. Maybe calling him gay and piece of shit wasn't the best way to put it, but it's Ozzie's way, and he's made it perfectly clear he ain't changing for no one.

Correct. Ozzie just needs to further his English language skills so that he will know when it is appropriate to call someone a gay, piece of shit, and when it isn't.

As for Jay Mariotti, I think the term Ozzie was reaching for, with his limited English skills mind you, was window licker.
