OT Mike Adams (Official Thread)

On the one hand, it's good to see TP back his teammate.

On the other hand, he might not want to let future opponents know about such an injury, since they may try to take advantage of that knowledge.

One thing i've noticed about TP is he will tell the media exactly what is ailing him and now other players. It made me nervous when he stated how his knee was bothering him a lot because I figured teams would go for the weakness.

Hard to read the context of the quote through text, but my first reaction was a "Tresselized" response in which he takes the blame or puts the blame on something else, so as to not embarrass him (i.e. Tressel taking the heat for offensive play calls, other decisions) or to not make a big deal for one missed block.

But an injury is a much bigger deal than a simple missed block.

Interesting.

You are better off just grabbing the guys' jersey from behind with your good arm than letting him have a clean shot at the knees of your QB. It's 10 yards vs. TP's season.

Ever separate your shoulder? The instant it happens, you aren't thinking of anything else but that shoulder...

Come on man that's a little ridiculous, I think if your shoulder pops out it would be kinda hard to think of anything else in that split second.

I assume you separated yours the same way PrincessPeach separated hers?

It was there, but you hit it about 350 yards.

Well, that would explain all the shit that went wrong with that block. If he hurt himself on contact, there's no way in hell he was going to do much to block the guy. The injury concerns me, but I'm glad to know that he doesn't just occasionally completely whiff on blocks for no discernible reason. I hope his shoulder is strong and healthy now.

Exactly, I seperated mine on a down field block in high school. Everyone around me was celebrating a touchdown, I was on the ground in pain. Yeah, you can pop it back and keep playing but at that point, the only pain I've felt worse, was a kidney stone. Not grabbing at the jersey is understandable. Glad to hear he should be alright.

I'm having flashbacks of Beanie's fumble against YSU(?) at the goal line when he dropped to the ground in pain, fumbled the ball and the stuff that was said quickly after that... Sometimes we forget the the guys in pads are human and react to pain in a similar way that you and I would...

It's hard to think clearly when your in sudden pain - why should a guy in pads react differently?

In addition, the shot at Pryor's knees (though I don't think was done on purpose) could have happend on any play. Even if Adams didn't seperate his shoulder on the play, missed blocks happen... a Coner coming off the edge clean is going to happen... a free linebacker up the middle is going to happen... to point the finger at Adams for a missed block that "could have", but didn't, bench Pryor for the season" is a bit overkill isn't it?

Adams is fine

On Wednesday, Terrelle Pryor said left tackle Mike Adams suffered a separated shoulder on the first-quarter play last week in which Adams was beaten and gave up a scary-looking hit to Pryor's left knee.

Pryor almost immediately changed the diagnosis, saying Adams' shoulder "slipped out."

Adams sat out a series but returned on the following possession, so clearly it was not a separation.

Tressel said Adams was fine, that he just "got dinged."

A likely explanation is that Adams suffered a shoulder subluxation, or a temporary dislocation. Those are common for people, like Adams, who have suffered previous shoulder injuries.

Luncheon Day Notebook: Another Epidemic?
By Brandon Castel

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State left tackle Mike Adams was supposed to be available for interviews Tuesday after being named the Jim Parker Offensive Lineman of the Week for the second time this season.

Instead, Adams won?t even be available for practice.

The junior out of Dublin Coffman was said to have a ?violent stomach illness? Tuesday as the No. 1-ranked Buckeyes prepare for one of their biggest games of the year at Wisconsin.

?There were two guys that came in for sick call (this morning),? said Tressel, who couldn?t recall who the other player was.

?Am I worried that it's an epidemic? Not this moment. We had one last week. J.B. (Shugarts) was out Tuesday's practice.?

Mike Adams is a large, pampered, quirky human being.

The "large" part is obvious: The Ohio State left tackle is 6 feet 8 and weighs 300 pounds. The other traits were revealed in a recent conversation with the junior from Dublin Coffman:

QUESTION: What's the best thing about being so big?

ANSWER: "Probably the crazy looks from people everywhere you go. You can be walking down the sidewalk in a random day, and every time you pass somebody, if you look back, they're going to be looking right back at you."

Q: Do you ever sense you scare people?

A: "When I was in high school, I would go outside for the bus in the morning and my neighbors would actually sometimes run from me."

Q: Are we talking about kids here?

A: "We're talking grownups. It might be like 6:30 in the morning, it might be a little dark out. I would say `Hello,' and they would take off."

Q: What's the worst thing about your size?

A: "You've got to watch doorways and exit signs."

Q: So what do you do for fun on your off days?

A: "I'm usually with my O-line guys. Maybe go over to Massage Envy (on Bethel Road), grab a massage. I'm a member there. And then maybe go see a movie with the guys, grab something to eat."
