OT Mike Adams (Official Thread)

I'd love to see what a pro scout would put Mike's upper end draft round potential at this point (i.e. 4th round, 2nd round, etc.). There's a huge range of possibilities in that answer that wouldn't surprise me. I guess best estimate would be just about as interesting to me.

If I had to take a shot (and my opinion of course doesn't mean anything), my best estimate at this point would be 5th-6th round with upper end potential of 2nd round, although 3rd may be more realistic. The lower end, undrafted, would still not be a surprise to me at all at this point.

I don't see how you could eliminate 1st round as a possibility at this point. His measurables are absolutely ideal for LT in the pros, and he has impressive athleticism. If he continues to improve over this year and potentially next year (obviously speculation, but we're talking potential here), he definitely has 1st round potential.

To project a first round left tackle you hope to see something special at this stage of his career.

Agreed, but he's also only half-way through his career. And LT's have been drafted off of potential and a limited resume/experience more and more often in the NFL. Recently, Bulaga, Anthony Davis and Chris Williams all played 2 seasons or less starting at the Left Tackle position. Adams has almost two full seasons ahead of him to prove where he can be. I imagine it will be in the top-3 rounds.

More Mature, Adams Playing at Different Level
By Brandon Castel

COLUMBUS ? Mike Adams got his first chance to start for Ohio State as a sophomore last fall.

It didn?t go so well.

After being suspended for the first two games of the 2009 season, Adams started four games at left tackle in the middle of the year before he was replaced by senior Jim Cordle following the debacle at Purdue.

A year later, Adams is back in the starting lineup on the left side of Ohio State?s offensive line, where he is playing at a completely different level. The former five-star prospect out of Dublin Coffman was recently named the Jim Parker Offensive Lineman of the Week for the first time in his OSU career after the Buckeyes? 43-7 win over Ohio University.

?It feels great to have been out there with the guys from the start. It?s different when you come in during the middle of the season,? the junior left tackle said.

?It?s great to be out there with my guys having fun.?

It's taken time for Adams to earn job

COLUMBUS, Ohio?Mike Adams came to Ohio State as one of the most acclaimed offensive line recruits in the country.

Three years later?after a vague suspension, several injuries and a world of questions?he's finally holding down the important spot at left tackle for the No. 2 Buckeyes.

Even he admits he didn't think it would take this long.

"Coming in here, honestly I didn't," he said, appearing to carefully choose his words. "But the way things worked out are fine with me. It's going good now and I'll just try to keep it rolling."

Mike Adams doesn't just pass the eye test. He aces it.

Long and relatively lean at 6-foot-8 and 300 pounds, Adams has a body that makes line coaches salivate. Some 300-pound offensive linemen carry their weight poorly. Adams looks fit and boasts tremendous athleticism.

And in a strange way, that's his biggest problem.

You look at Mike Adams and you immediately think four-year starter, All-Big Ten performer, All-America selection and first-round NFL draft pick. He came to Ohio State as a decorated high school prospect, rated as the nation's No. 1 tackle by one national recruiting service and the No. 8 tackle by ESPN Recruiting in 2008

Adams getting past mental block

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

FRED SQUILLANTE | DISPATCH
Junior tackle Mike Adams won Ohio State's lineman of the week award this week for the first time.

The play clock is ticking down, and Ohio State left tackle Mike Adams is on full alert.

Center Mike Brewster has called out a protection scheme, but now linebackers and safeties are moving up to blitz - or are they just faking?

Now quarterback Terrelle Pryor is barking out a change to a "hot" route, and Brewster shouts a corresponding switch in the protection.

The ball will be snapped in moments. What's Adams thinking?

"You're looking at guys, trying to read some keys before the snap," Adams said. "Then when the ball is snapped and you're pass blocking, you've got to be aware of who's around you - what guys you're supposed to block, what guys the running backs are supposed to block.

"You just kind of have to sift through all the different people flying around."

Great to hear and see the progress being made by Big Mike both on the field, in the film room, in the weight room, and his overall commitment to this team. We all knew he could be something special when we saw him in HS and he certainly has all the physical tools to be a tackle at the next level. Stay hungry my friend.

Mike Adams continues to nurse a shoulder injury.

Maybe the most disturbing part of the play was that left tackle Mike Adams, the man in charge of protecting Pryor?s blindside, didn?t seem to block anyone on the play as Eastern Michigan got a free shot at Ohio State?s star quarterback.

On Wednesday, Pryor cleared the air about the missed block.

?I felt like it was a clean block, but what happened was Mike Adams separated his shoulder on that play,? he said of his 2008 classmate.

?Once you separate that shoulder, you can?t do anything about that.?

Suprised nobody has been talking about this. I'm not familiar with shoulder injuries, but I've seen people seperate their shoulders. Usually, they just "pop it" back in I guess and get back and go. Other times, I've heard of people having to get an operation to correct the issue.

We NEED Mike this year. Especially early. We need him to continue to build confidence and to keep improving his game if we want to win against the likes of Iowa and other schools with elite DL. If Mike can't go, Steve19 may be put back on suicide watch as well, and nobody wants that...

You are better off just grabbing the guys' jersey from behind with your good arm than letting him have a clean shot at the knees of your QB. It's 10 yards vs. TP's season.

It is kind of strange that this is really the first we hear of it. I guess if you can pop it in and keep going on the next play it really wouldn't show up on an injury report. But it is kinda strange nonetheless.
