OT Mike Adams (Official Thread)

In other football matters, Tressel said freshman lineman Mike Adams, rated by some recruiting analysts as the best lineman in his class, could be back a few games into the season after shoulder surgery in the spring. He won't be ready for contact during preseason practice, but Tressel said "there are some people saying they wouldn't be surprised if he got back in September sometime."

If he's not ready by then, Tressel indicated a redshirt season would have to be considered.

* Freshman lineman Mike Adams, recovering from shoulder surgery, could be back sooner than expected. Eleven days ago, Tressel thought Adams might be ready a few games into the season and wouldn't be ready for any contact during the preseason.

"The latest words I've been hearing is that Mike Adams might make it back for the beginning of camp. I'm not going to count on that, but when I bump into him, he says, 'Coach, I'm going to be ready day one.'"

I'm lovin this kid already.

Champing at the bit. I'm sure the trainers will be duly cautious, but if Adams can participate in fall camp, that would be huge. His size and power gives him a head start for the college transition. I'm sure there's plenty for him to work on, but he should be ready to take on DLs one on one already. Part of me wants to see him play right away, part of me wants him to stay around as long as possible. Either way, we win.

I'm taking everything with a grain of salt... I don't know firsthand... but I know numerous that have had shoulder surgery... and they insist it is the roughest recovery of any part of the body... VERY painful...

I hope the best for Mike... but if he does make it back before game one.. this is one tough hombre

Take this FWIW, but I was talking to a current Coffman HS football player who recently talked to Adams and said that Mike is well ahead of the recovery pace and he could be back in time for the latter part of fall camp and could be ready for YSU.

This is great news to me because he can get some reps at LT and have some experience before he takes over next year. I also wonder if they may have him compete at RT, or if they will stick with Browning.

Ohio State notebook: Freshman lineman keeps busy with clippers

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

He hasn't taken a snap in fall camp, but Mike Adams has made a big contribution to the Ohio State offensive line.
Adams, a freshman from Dublin, continues to sit out as he recovers from shoulder surgery. But the other night in the team hotel, he took the razor to the scalps of four line mates.
The result? Lines and lightning bolts adorn the domes of Alex Boone, Jim Cordle, Justin Boren and Kyle Mitchum.
"This is camp, this is (us being) bored," Boone said.
He added that the four had nicknames, both collective ("The Storm Team Four") and individual: Boone is "Dark Thunder," Cordle is "Purple Rain," Boren is "White Lightning" and Mitchum is "Flash."

From JT's presser today. He also said that Mike will play on Saturday. For discussion of which other freshmen are playing, see the 'Who Rredshirts' thread.

COACH TRESSEL: Yeah, Mike's full go. We had to be a little conservative in the preseason, but he's been full go probably the last four or five practices.
