rivals update 12/2/05

Miller has been offered by tOSU, possibily will visit tOSU on 10-11 Dec. Indiana, Pitt, West Virginia, Illinois, NC State and Northwestern have offered. Penn State is also in the mix.

This kid is a Coleman, Barton, Schaeffer, Ballard, Frost-type recruit. His level of athleticism and size will most likely determine what position he ends up at, but blufftonbuck is right...you can't have enough kids coming out of high school who are 6-6 250 lbs. and run under a 4.9. I am with cbf40...I like this offer.

Glad to see Andy get an offer, I never saw him play this year, but have read a good bit about him. Trinity High School is about 1 mile from my office. Here's some articles from the local paper.

Division I offers continue to pile up for mammoth 6-7 tight end/lineman. Illinois, Indiana, Marshall, North Carolina State, Northwestern and West Virginia have made scholarship offers... Caught seven passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns... Used primarily as a run-blocker, serving as an extra lineman and helped lead the way for Ben Jennings, who led the WPIAL in rushing yards during the regular season... Some colleges looking to convert Miller to offensive tackle.

The Backyard Brawl means more than Big East supremacy; the game also impacts local recruiting.

West Virginia boasts 23 players from Pennsylvania, including 16 from the WPIAL or Pittsburgh City League. Count Mozes and Carmichaels graduate Bobby Hathaway among them.

Wannstedt wants to block the pipeline to Morgantown.

"West Virginia comes up here and recruits in Pennsylvania, they always have," Wannstedt said. "In my opinion, we don't have competition here or not much of it. The best players are going to come to Pitt."

One player being courted by both schools is Trinity senior Andy Miller. West Virginia already offered a scholarship and it's believed Pitt will soon follow.

[FONT=Verdana, Times New Roman, Times, Serif]Thanks to strong performances in the WPIAL Class AAAA football playoffs against Penn Hills and Mt. Lebanon, Andy Miller's recruitment is hitting a fever pitch.

According to Trinity football coach Ed Dalton, Pitt recently offered Miller a scholarship, brining the number of interested schools to seven.

Illinois, Indiana, Marshall, North Carolina State, Northwestern and West Virginia previously extended offers to Miller, an intriguing, 6-7 prospect who some schools like as a tight end and others see as an offensive tackle.

Dalton also said Penn State and Ohio State are increasing interest. Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Bradley is scheduled to drop in on a Trinity basketball game in the near future to see Miller.

"In a perfect world, we'd like to get this done before Christmas," Dalton said. "There's not many January visits for recruits because there's never anybody on campus but it's virtually impossible to get this in before then."

Before the 2005 season started, Miller said he'd favor Pitt if the Panthers offered.

Andy was very impressed with Indiana, but did say it may be too far from home for his taste. He will visit WVU (12/9) then head directly to Ohio State (12/11) for a Sunday, Monday official visit. Andy does say he is looking for comfort as opposed to recent succes.

as of right now he isn't even planning on visiting PSU, although that could obviously change if they come forward with an offer...

Well he says they are in the mix, so that makes me think that they have been in contact and might be thinking about offering, b/c if not I don't think he would say they are in the mix.

I think this is one guy the staff has tried to keep quiet about, so other teams interest wouldnt pick up.

Well, to my understanding, Tressel says that our OL recruiting is done. Now, if that includes the thinking that Browning ends up in Columbus remains to be seen, but Miller's offer came after those statements. I can't imagine bringing Miller in as a TE with Ballard for 4+, Frost for 2 more, Nicol for 3 more and Brandon Smith for 3 more. Though, I could be missing something here.

Well the fact that the offer came b4 we knew what Thomas was going to do is telling to me. I think the staff if they get Miller, would like to move one of either Ballard or Miller to T and try and keep one as a te. That would give us 3 ol and one te, with two guys being able to flip flop position if need be. Also with one of those guys in there at TE it will be like having 2 tackles side by side which would only help the running game.

You can never have enough 6'7'' 260 lb guys. They are not easy to defend whether they are trying to catch passes or taking on your DE's or LB who they outweigh.

I am all for this offer and really hope that Miller pulls the trigger for us.

I have heard that this offer was in the works for some time now. His offer is for the offensive line I'm almost positive. Think Kirk Barton...
