OSU Women's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Love her grit. Giving away 6+" and holding back opponent's centers is a great look. We used to call that a 'banger'. Now certain if proper these days, but that's exactly what Eboni does. When she's in, the middle isn't 'soft'. And when she drops off, drifts to the foul stripe, and wills home those set shots of hers, pure magic. Finish strong Eboni. Predict a good year for you in Buckeyeland. Go Bucks!

Saw a FB write-up of the Lady Buckeyes freshwomen recruiting class. Guess McDuff has been reading our posts, looks like he has some tall timber coming in the door, plus some quick, high scoring guards (his specialty). Looks to me to be a good blend of veterans and young 'uns. Thierry (my favorite) will be a senior, and Cotie a junior, plus Maddie (super senior?) gives them a great basis, and some great sophs and/or freshwomen to fill in the gaps. Hopefully one of these 6'4" folk can adequately woman the center position. Taylor has been jumping center for quite awhile now, maybe someone can outleap her? Actually, am looking forward to watching both men's and women's bball teams in action. Hope the Buckeyes don't get shorted, as the B10 network has got to make room for the four new teams.

Saw where McDuff is picking up a 6'4" forward from the portal, albeit she has zero experience, and thus four years of eligibility. Guess he's hoping to have a Dorkas reincarnated. Hopefully someone with more skills than I possess will do a write-up on what this team is going to look like come season. Go Bucks :banger:

Both female and male basketball players these days have a roundball put in their hands at an early age. While the female side of the game doesn't have ALL of the opportunities to hone ones game, there are still several (many?) opportunities to get court time. Daughter started at 6 (where they dribble for awhile, then run with the ball awhile), and progressed to making HS varsity as a freshwoman. Lots of year-round travel ball between. Sooo, my belabored point is that when they get to college, they have developed some skill at the game. And the adage is that one cannot coach height, seems to be prevalent in this case. Don't have a clue which one of the asst coaches are responsible for teaching the bigs, but seems there are enough on this team to make it interesting. Has there been an interview where she said why she left after a RS year? And further thought occurs, mayhaps Ebony will stick around as a coach, and pass on some of her knowledge. Will be in C'bus in December, so definitely will be in the Schott (several times hopefully), to see this edition of the Lady Bucks. Here's hoping B10 network shows several more of the female games, now that there's four more teams to clutter up the channel.

Gotcha. Now that Jacy, Taylor, and the loss of Cotie, the cupboard might be a bit bare. Certainly the PG has the edge, although she seemed to fade in the background later in the season. Cannot see Bjork giving McDuff the door, although his handling of the police seemed to be pretty smooth (more smooth than I could be). Might also opine that the pool of outstanding women's bb coaches is more shallow than the men's. Do like the freshwoman big in her first year. Definitely shows promise, but needs to beef up the upper body, and get some moves with her back to the basket. Go Bucks, always.

Ohio State lands Bryn Martin commitment, Ohio Division I Player of the Year

The Springboro senior flipped Big Ten schools Sunday night

Springboro guard Brynleigh (Bryn) Martin committed to the Washington Huskies eight months ago, but reopened her recruiting on May 12. Sunday night, the shooting guard announced on Instagram that she is now a member of the 2025 Ohio State women’s basketball recruiting class.

The 6-foot-1 shooting guard is the second player to commit to the Buckeyes before the 2025-26 season. Ranked the No. 69 player in the 2025 ESPN Hoopgurlz prospect class, Martin is a strong late pickup in the recruiting cycle for head coach Kevin McGuff and the Buckeyes after Martin won the Ohio Division 1 Player of the Year award.

With Springboro, Martin averaged 23 points, 5.1 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game as a senior. Martin brings three level scoring and a quick release from beyond the arc. The guard brings similar attributes beyond the arc as sophomore Ava Watson, but has more potential inside the paint.

Has McDuff figured out that there's only one basketball allowed on the court at a time? Or that unless a shooter hits 100% of their shots, someone (hopefully in S&G) needs to collect the rebound? Do like the guard talent, but hard to imagine a four-deep at #2 (shooting) guard. PS, saw U-tube highlight of Jacy/Suns. She was noted as being a 'bully' and injuring people. Showed the replays. Jacy was diving for the ball, and happened to land on someone's leg as she was going for the ball. Now, that's typical Jacy play. Nothing like Griner elbowing Caitlyn in the throat, however.
