OSU vs Walsh exhibition

As for the cartoon...Eric Turner is said to look like Kermit the Frog...Probably the funniest thing I heard all night...:slappy:
BUCKYLE was doing such a great job with his analysis and then you come in and ruin everything.:)
Madsen looked very good tonight...He is not an above the rim player at all, but scores the ball well around the rim, and seems to understand position...He will be a solid role player this year...
I don't want to toot my horn too early but I tried to tell everyone last year that Madsen is a very good basketball player and will be a contributor before he leaves Ohio State.:biggrin2:
Honestly I see Crater starting within a couple weeks...
Since I have not seen Simonds play yet, I would like to think that Crater and Simmons will probably split the PG position may be 65/35 Crater until the Big 10 season starts. It certainly sounds from when everything that I have read that Crater seems to be more of a PG while Simmons is more of a 1 1/2.
Not as long as Rajon Rando, and not quite a quick,
Who is this Rando that you speak of:huh::)
Turner...He could slide himself into a first round draft pick this year
I tell you that I did not want to hear this talk about Turner sliding anywhere with regard to leaving Ohio State early so let's keep that talk to a bare whisper.
Kinda dissapointed we didn't see Hill more
I just don't think that P.J. has the offensive skills that are possessed by Simmons and Crater. I love his efforts and hustle but offensively I just don't think he possesses the same skills as the above two.
Played lots of zone tonight
I thought that we were going to see more man-to-man this year. Hopefully, they are just going through an adjustment phase in practice since the guys are so new to the college game.
Going to be very exciting to watch this year...It is basketball season and I am very excited...
Great summary as always:highfive:. I knew I could count on you. Really appreciate your time and effort to summarize the game and the players. Greenies for you!

Rando is the pg for the Boston Celtics, played at Kentucky for college...

I will keep the talk down about Turner, but I will tell you that Scouts will be on to him...He is too good, and his length is extremely valuable at the next level...

You were right about Madsen, but I see his time diminishing a little as guys come back...Lauderdale and Kecman...

Men's Basketball
Buckeyes Look Promising in Season's First Appearance
By John Porentas

Maybe it was just an exhibition game, and maybe it didn't count, but it was fun, and it was encouraging.
Ohio State downed Walsh by a final of 90-63 in the first public outing of the season for the Buckeyes, and for those of you who are thinking that a win in an exhibition game is not important, I will refer you to the results of the OSU vs. Findlay game last season. That was just an exhibition game too, and it didn't count either, but it presaged a season that wasn't much fun and that was a struggle from start to finish. The difference a year later is almost tangible.
A year ago the Buckeyes got outrebounded 34-27, managed just 11 assists and had just two players in double figures. A year later, the Buckeyes won the battle of the boards 37-25, amassed 21 assists and had five players in double figures.

I guess you missed me on Rando:wink2:.

Regarding Madsen don't you think that Lauderdale and him are really two different types of players. Also, Kecman it going to have to really step it up to get some meaningful playing time since he is going to miss all of the games prior to the Big 10 season.

madsens time will dimminish no doubt. the importance of thos eminutes will not.

His energy on the court last night was awesome, and I think the rest of the guys took notice and followed suit. He crashed the boards on both ends of the ball, and a lot of times was the first person back down the court in transition.

He kind of gave me the feeling that Twigs was back on the court.

This type of play will earn him plenty of min's.

Agree with everything other than the chance of Mullens coming off the bench to backup Lauderdale...Don't see that happening...

If Lauderdale is going to start it is going to be at the 4 spot, which I think there is a high possibility of that happening...
I'm just saying that it wouldn't surprise me if Lauderdale starts over Mullens. If Mullens had any sort of presence whatsoever on D, Lauderdale starting wouldn't even be a topic of conversation.

Personally, I just don't think that you could do that to Mullens. I think by starting him sort of rewards him for his early commitment and he can't be that bad defensively not to start him or am I missing something. I think his defense will improve as the season progresses and he gets more playing time at the college level. Also, some guys play better than others when coming off the bench and Dallas proved last year that his play was not affected when he came in as a substitute.

You shouldn't reward a kid with playing time just because he committed early. That wouldn't be sending a good message. He should have to earn time. know matter who he is.
You are correct that was a bad statement on my part but I don't think that Lauderdale should be starting over Mullens. BJ needs the playing time early to get better at the college level.

Just based on the Walsh game & a couple practices I saw ... BJ has a long way to go before he's a dominant player on the collegiate level. Dallas should start at the 5 because he's a better rebounder and defender (3-9 from the field, 4 rebounds in 22 minutes, 0 Ast/3 TO, 0 Blk is NOT the sort of stat line that a 1 & done center puts up against an NAIA team) - I guarantee that Dallas would've grabbed more than 4 rebounds against Walsh & would've blocked at least one shot had he played 22 minutes. Dallas is clearly ahead of BJ right now, IMO. There's no need to force-feed BJ minutes when OSU has another solid big man who knows what he's doing out there.

The "two post" lineup is a good starting lineup to use against bigger teams, but until we see those opponents, going "small" is the best option with BJ coming off the bench.

I have to disagree. I really think that you need to start BJ and hope that he can adjust to the college game. If you do not start him, he will miss valuable playing time and I think that is what he needs before we get into the Big 10 schedule. From everything that I have read, I know that Dallas has made some big strides since last season but he performed a lot better coming off the bench and you really don't know what you will get from BJ if he comes off the bench. Different players, play and react different ways when they come off the bench.

I am not a big fan of the two big man starting lineup unless we are going up against a team that would be pretty big. I think that Lighty or Turner could hold their own against most teams PF's. However, you have seen them play and practice and I haven't.
