OSU president's son-in-law dies

The son-in-law of Ohio State University President E. Gordon Gee died about 4 p.m. today from injuries in a July 12 motor-scooter crash.

Dr. Allan Frederick Moore died at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, OSU said in a news release. He was 31. Gee and his daughter, Dr. Rebekah Gee, were at his bedside, as were Moore's parents, Dr. Michael A. and Janet Moore.

Dr. Allan Frederick Moore was a fellow in endocrinology and practiced internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he and Rebekah met as medical residents.

He was also conducting research at Massachusetts General and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in the area of diabetes complications and disease prevention.

He and Rebekah Gee married in October 2006.

Rebekah Gee, who was also injured in the accident, is undergoing rehabilitation at the Ohio State University Medical Center.

Authorities say that the two were riding a Vespa motor scooter that collided with a sport utility vehicle July 12 at an intersection in the Philadelphia area.

Funeral and memorial service arrangements were pending.

There was a point in my life where I didn't have a car, and owned a honda elite 250 scooter. I stopped at a stop sign and proceeded to go, I saw a car out of the corner of my eye coming up to the four way stop, well, she didn't stop and hit me full speed. I was fortunate in that I jumped in the air right before she hit my bike and went through her windshield. My leather jacket took most of the damage, I had some stitches and a cut very close to my eye, the bike went right under her car.

I didn't have a license, but she was high as hell, so I was let go and she was arrested for attempted vehicular manslaughter.

That's horrible. I can't imagine how difficult this must be fore Gordon and especially his daughter.

Wasn't there a picture of them with Gordon Gee in the latest Alumni Magazine? Wow, I can't imagine how awful it would be to lose my spouse at age 31.

Got rid of mine years ago for the reasons noted here. All it takes is one car to not see you and you're screwed, and I had too many close calls for comfort.

These days, I won't even ride my bicycle on roads, either, having had to bail into someone's front yard on more than one occasion.

Sad story. My heart goes out to his wife.

there was a picture of the crash scene and there was a helmet laying on the ground. It has never been reported, that I know about, whether they were both wearing helmets or not.

In any case, it is very tragic.
