OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Ohio State Buckeyes are showing interest in a transfer portal player that fits just what they badly need

Ohio State still needs to add some size in the front court and they are showing interest in another transfer center.

The Buckeyes have been in contact with Grand Canyon C Duke Brennan in the transfer portal

According to Rivals, the Buckeyes are one team that has reached out to Grand Canyon transfer C Duke Brennan. The 6-foot-10 center has also heard from schools like West Virginia, USC, Rutgers, Clemson, and Iowa amongst others.

Brennan is heading into his senior season and averaged 10.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game in 30 starts for Grand Canyon. As a sophomore, Brennan started 35 games for Grand Canyon and put up 7.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Brennan started his career at Arizona State and he appeared in 36 games with the Sun Devils, but played in just nine minutes per game.

Ohio State has three surefire starters at the moment with Bruce Thornton, John Mobley Jr., and Devin Royal returning. Tilly could be another starter for the Buckeyes, with just one starting spot remaining.

Bringing in two seven-footers from the transfer portal in total would give the Buckeyes the needed size. Bradshaw’s addition didn’t go as planned and the Buckeyes have to improve from that.

It will be very interesting to see how the rest of the portal period plays out. We have kind of a dead period here until April 10th, then I'm sure there will be a lot of activity between the 10th and the 22nd when the portal closes. The House v. NCAA case may be resolved soon, which could set caps on how much schools can pay for NIL - this is one of the reasons so many transfers and schools have quickly worked to lock up their deals, they don't want to have to worry about someone else stopping them from making the deal they want.

One thing I'm seeing is it seems like OSU is planning to add to the frontcourt. Is this a sign about Sean Stewart possibly not returning? He is the one starter we have not gotten a statement from that he is returning. I suppose it could be the plan is to play Stewart more at the 4, we just don't know. I believe OSU will add another frontcourt player and a wing player.

Really like this kid. Seen GCU play several times past couple years abs he's a hard worker. Maybe just what the doctor ordered.

Didn't anyone, as a kid, buy Bazooka (more for the trading cards than the gum), and try to wheedle a better player for your 'hand' by giving up two or three people you never heard of? Life today reminds me of this. Except there's more $ on the line than the 5 cents. Once had the starting line-up of the Cleveland Indians. (lived in Ohio).

Just remembering how Tanner Holden averaged 20 ppg at Wright State, people thought he was going to be big-time for OSU. He averaged less than 4 ppg in 1 year, and then transferred to go back to Wright State. It's very easy to overestimate how much production you are going to get from guys through the portal - obviously it's tough because you've got to keep the guys you have coming back and get them enough NIL, then have enough to build around them through the portal, and clearly some teams are paying premiums to get some of these guys to transfer.
