Posting this is the recruiting section. But with Buford gone, Sullinger and Thomas looking like they are leaving, and talk of transfers what is the staff thinking in terms of scholarship numbers. Anybody have a thought?
If Thomas and Sullinger declare for draft and there is one transfer, we will be down to 9 scholarship players and our chances of landing anyone don't look very good at the moment unless Matta has some sort surprise.

Don't quite understand why the NBA players are for the existing one and done rule. It would seem like the veteran players would be against having younger guys taking up their potential roster spots.

NEW YORK (AP) -- David Stern would love a system in which Anthony Davis and the rest of Kentucky's freshmen stars were required to try to repeat.

Instead, the NBA commissioner could end up calling Davis' name in June as the first pick in the draft.
The league wasn't able to change its draft eligibility rules during collective bargaining last year. The rules require an American player to be 19 years old and a year out of high school.

"We would love to add a year, but that's not something that the players' association has been willing to agree to," Stern said Tuesday.

The union would only agree to form a committee to discuss changes, and Stern knows the players are unlikely to consent to an increase without some concession from owners.

It's called negotiation. Even though they might want to give it up, they have to get something they want from the NBA owners in return for their "concession."

According to the OZONE, both Gill and Hood will be in this weekend for the spring game. As goofy as this will sound, this could be a bigger recruiting weekend for Thad than it is for the football team. Hint of sarcasm intended.

Why the sacasm? OSU is a basketball school.

Actually, in terms of value to the team you could be spot on. Transfers are perfect. Next year we still have a somewhat crowded roster. The year after we will be desperate for experience. And these kids can be practicing the whole time and learning the system.

I agree competely with your analysis Oh8. I am enthused about the potential of both of these guys with the bonus that they could concievably have 3 years to play in the program. The sarcasm remark just addresses the tremendous euphoria over this coming recruiting weekend for the football bucks. If Anzalone and Bosa were to committ with maybe a suprise as well, I would imagine some positive bball news would seem to be secondary to most fans. Agree that potentially adding Gill and Hood to the roster could be a bigger percentage effect to the program than any 2 football recruits we could add. Always nice to know that there are many thinking bball 12 months a year.

Indiana logjam

I don't know if this is good or bad but really does not have any scholarships available for the next 3-4 years. Sure hope Parker does not want to go there:biggrin2:

The commitment of 2013 combo guard Stanford Robinson to Indiana coach Tom Crean Wednesday night was a big pickup for the Hoosiers. Ranked No. 88 by rivals.com in his class, Robinson becomes the highest ranked player to join IU?s four-man class. The other three are all in the Rivals Top 150 but are all three-star recruits while Robinson is a four-star. Devin Davis Jr. ranks No. 107, Collin Hartman is No. 110 and Luke Fischer is No. 134.

But as IU continues to add more players, the questions continue in terms of how all of these guys are going to fit in to Indiana?s already crowded scholarship situation. Crean said a few weeks ago that he?s not worried about Indiana being oversigned by one player in the upcoming class that will be on campus this summer and play for the Hoosiers in the fall. Crean said that basically these things tend to work themselves out.

And I?m sure they do. Just how they ultimately shake out is what Indiana fans will have to sit back and wait and see how it all transpires.

I don't visit here often so forgive my ignorance, but any type of inside info on how the '13 class may shape up? Obviously Loving is a great start but it seems we have legit shots at Parker, Randle, Mickey, etc. Also, I was curious how many spots we'll likely have for the '13 class? Seems that with transfers and the lack of '12 recruits we would have multiple 'ships to give.

no inside info, but i see 2013 being very similar to 2012. I do not see any slam dunks among the 2013 kids we are recruiting. It looks like we are taking some shots with some big time out of state kids but nothing seems close. It also appears to be little or no interest in the Ohio kids...I thought Devin Williams from Cincy was someone they were interested in but no offer yet.

Maybe 2014 is the big year with targets Lyle, Okafor, Jones etc.?

as of right now we have 3 open scholly's (unless Hood takes one to cut to 2)...in 2013 we should have two more with Ravanel and most likely Thomas leaving.

Strange, I was going to ask the same question when I was in this forum yesterday. According to the Projected Scholarship Breakdown thread(Right under this thread) we have three scholarships available for next year depending upon what Hood might do and I do not have hopes for him would be pleasantly surprised.

Regarding the recruiting for 2013, I do not think that we will be taking any of the Ohio kids unless someone blows up over the summer. I think Thad has casted a wide net and will pull in a couple prime timers for 2013 in addition to Loving. That will still leave us a few scholarships for 2014.

In addition to Thomas leaving, it is possible that Ross might go also if he is as good as everyone says he is. That would open up an additional scholarship for 2013 or 14.
