OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Perhaps Larson becoming available was an unexpected development. I can see reasons why they might want to take another quality big in the '10 class.

Lauderdale is gone after this year and Sullinger could be. If that happens you are left with zero returning bigs (Z/Kecman excluded until they show they can play at this level).

There don't seem to be a ton of bigs that OSU has a great shot at next year.

Don't forget the staff has some connections with the former regime at Iowa. It's possible Lickliter recommended this kid to Matta as a good fit for his system. Also, one of Lickliter's assistant coaches has been rumored to be a candidate for Major's vacated position.

You added much of what I was thinking, Itown. No sense (me) being repetitive. This whole scenario could be bad, but we don't know for certain yet. I am a person who at times battles to keep an optimistic attitude when confronted by the adversities of life. I work at trying not to assume the worst in a situation when there is the possibility that it could break either way. With the info that we have at this point, and at the risk in seeming nieve to many here, I simply choose to be hopeful that both Thomas and Sullinger are in uniform for the Bucks next fall.

Ohio State is looking for size inside in the classes of 2011 and '12, and two prospects who could help in that regard are back on the market.

Power forward Elijah Macon of Marion-Franklin rescinded a commitment to West Virginia in March and center Michael Chandler of Indianapolis Lawrence North did the same with Louisville last week.

But both Macon, a sophomore, and Chandler, a junior, reportedly have academic shortcomings, so they could be fallback options.

The top two priorities for the Buckeyes in the 2011 class are believed to be 6-9 center Amir Williams of Detroit and 6-7 power forward Julian Royal of Alpharetta, Ga. Royal is a high school and AAU teammate of point guard Shannon Scott, who already has committed to Ohio State.

Kiel Turpin, son of Kentucky great Melvin Turpin, has been getting more and more attention over the last couple of weeks. The 6′11″ center at Lincoln Junior College has opened a lot of eyes recently, including Ohio State University?s Thad Matta. Matta visited Turpin yesterday as it was the first visit from Ohio State. Turpin?s stock is on the rise and I am sure Kentucky will be really interested in Turpin. Turpin will be eligible for D1 after the fall semester and will be ready to play after Christmas.

and kentucky cleaned up. calipari picked up knight and scout's 2011 #1 overall player, michael gilchrist.
calipari just received a commitment from marquis teague. if you're going by rivals' rankings, kentucky has picked up the #1 player for 2010 (knight), the #1 player for 2011 (gilchrist), and the #2 player for 2011 (teague).

Georgia Tech?s Paul Hewitt and UGA?s Mark Fox make recruiting appearances at Milton High School
April 22, 2010, by Michael Carvell

What gets Georgia Tech basketball coach Paul Hewitt out of bed at the wee hours of the morning?

Apparently, the idea of recruiting some of the state?s top juniors at Milton High School, the reigning state champions in Georgia?s largest classification.

Hewitt made quite the impression when he was the first head coach to show up at Milton on the first day of the recent NCAA contact period, which ended on Wednesday. Hewitt was there at 7:45 a.m. sharp on Monday to let his interest be known in a pair of Milton juniors ? 6-foot-9 power forward Julian Royal and 6-2 shooting guard Dai-Jon Parker.

Milton?s other elite 2011 prospect, point guard Shannon Scott, has already committed to Ohio State.

What about UGA coach Mark Fox? He showed up on Tuesday afternoon to observe Milton in off-season conditioning. He stayed for two hours, and also has his eyes fixated on Royal and Parker.

Here?s the big question: What are the chances of at least one of the members of Milton?s star-studded junior class staying in Georgia to play college basketball?

?I know a lot of people would love to see that happen, or even for them to play together,? Milton coach David Boyd said. ?I know at one time that all three of them had talked about playing together in college, but that was before (Scott) committed to Ohio State. We?ll have to wait and see what happens with Julian and Dai-Jon.?

Georgia Tech and UGA have fierce competition: They were among eight major colleges that dispersed head coaches to Milton over the last few days. The others were Oklahoma?s Jeff Capel, Ohio State?s Thad Matta, Oklahoma State?s Travis Ford, Rhode Island?s Jim Baron, Virginia?s Tony Bennett, and Wake Forest?s Jeff Bzedlik. About a dozen other SEC and ACC schools, including Alabama and Florida State, were represented by assistants.

?It was very impressive to see all the head coaches come through ? that?s very unusual,? Boyd said.

Both Royal and Parker have set no timetable on making college decisions.
