OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

A part of me was kind of looking forward to seeing Tyus in the S&G. Maybe there is a way that it still happens? Not likely but it is not impossible.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

I feel the same way, they are both very talented players, its a case of first come, first serve. Who knows what Matta and staff will pull next. :wink2:

now that I think about it, why couldn't we still take Tyus and call it a class? Turner is 6-6 and Tyus is 6-8. Turner could end up as a 2/3 combo and Tyus could end up as a 3/4, but in the Matta system, it is all 4-around-1 so really you are jost looking for athletes. I guess it would not shock me to still see Tyus in this class...

I was basically going to post the same thing, but I am afraid to even guess at this point because everyone on planet earth thought Turner was going to Illinois. Will the staff make room for Tyus....if I was the decision maker, I would.

Technically, we have room, but will they pull the trigger? I assume if Tyus makes the visit, that will tell the story.

When doing a projection of how our team would look by position in '07, it seems we will have a real glut of PF's on the team... figuring Matta will be moving Terwilliger to PF this summer in order to put his best 5 on the floor at the same time.

('07 team, in order by seniority)

PG- Butler (SR) / Conley (SO)
SG- Cook (SO) / Diebler (FR)
SF- Lighty (SO) / Turner (FR) (/ Tyus??)
PF- Terwilliger (SR) / Hunter (SR) / Madsen (SO) / Koufos (FR)
C- Oden (SO) / Lauderdale (FR)

If Butler returns, they could/should be the team to beat. Absolutely sick. Am I correct on all of those guys projecting as PF's or is one of those PF's projecting as a C?

Turner can play the 1,2,3 spot. Koufos/Madsen could possibly play the center position, other than that, it looks spot on.

I guess at BN$ they are saying that Tyus will NOT be part of this class. The class is done unless Mayo wants to come aboard.

I'm not a premium member there, this is just what someone who is posted on the free board.

07 roster, avg national ranking: 38th.
08 roster, avg national ranking: 27th.

Note: I'm omitting transfers (madsen, hunter), since they are not ranked upon entry. Also, i took the higher of the two scout/rivals rankings.

I was checking out the ESPN forums, seems as if the Matta talk is getting under the skins of some ACC fans... found this thread there:

tOSU Fans, You honestly Believe you have another #1 recruiting class on the way? Dont you have to have the #1 class last year? You have the best recruiter EVER?

Ohio State has TWO players in the top 50. #15 and #49, Two other players Ranked between 60-80.

That alone is not worthy of Top-5. No players in the top 10. Only ONE 5-star recruit.

Kansas State- Has already grabbed a Top-5 Prospect in Beasley. Possible to grab the #1 player in the Nation in OJ Mayo. Herb Pope And Bill walker Both top 10 Prospects. Pope and Walker have them as the Favorites. This Class would easily beat tOSU if they land them.

Michigan State- Landed two top 25 players, Both 5-star prospects. Another 4 Star Prospect in Chris Allen. This Class is already better And they are still in the hunt for a couple more players. It's Quality, Not Quantity.

Syracuse- Has had commits from 5 players already. Top 10 player in Green. Three other guys in the top 50. That already is better then tOSU.

Duke- Nolan Smith and Taylor King are headed to Duke. Smith a Top 25 player(Look for him to jump into the Top 15 now that it is his team), King a top 40 player. Duke is the Favorite for Top-10 Prospect in Kyle Singler, Anthony Randolph is a Top 10 prospect that has listed Duke as one of his Leaders.

I have nothing against tOSU. Saying Matta is best ever is Rediculous.

Good luck to you none the less, But Come back down to earth.

The one thing about the current rankings are that they are going to change over the summer and will look entirely different by the time these kids sign their LOI. Do I believe they have another top 5 class? Yes, when it is all said and done. Almost assured of at least a top 10 class with the current rankings.

Sounds like sour grapes from a fan of the ACC who doesn't want to admit that a football factory is starting to kick some but in basketball recruiting.

Tyus

I really don't understand why Matta canceled Tyus's visit and possible commitment. I have never seen Tyus or Turner play but I do not think that they play similar positions. Tyus is more of a 3/4 while Turner is more of a 2/3 if everything that I have read about both of them is correct.

Either Matta might possibly have somebody else in mind for the 1 scholarship available for the 2007 class or else he is just going to bank it. Or, he must feel very confident about getting Roe or Yates in 2008. The reason that I say that is because I think that Tyus is a very similar player to Roe and maybe he does not want to lose Roe due to a commitment from Tyus.

I would be interested in hearing how you guys feel about TM not taking Tyus even with the commitment of Turner. Is it possible that Turner would not have committed if Tyus committed before him or is it something else.
