Former students (53%)

Just called and it seems I'm part of the 47% who didn't make the list. :)

That 53% number is the percentage of people affected who are former students, not the percentage of former students affected. :wink2:

[censored]in' percentages, how do they work?

P.S. fixed your effected/affected, Maniac :p

Dean Alutto creditsafety letter

Anybody else get a letter from Dean Alutto about unauthorized access to the University's servers?

They're offering a year's worth of credit protection through Experian.

www.osu.edu/creditsafety

Anoybody know if this thing is legit or have the Nigerian email scammers taken over 320 W 8th Ave?

Got my letter. Wondering about the protection service they were offering as well.

The part that seems fishy is that I'd bet you could go to Experian or where-ever and get exactly the same deal - I haven't checked.

I've asked for free credit reports a couple times over the last decade. The crappy side is that once you're on their "marketing" list, it seems like the junk mail never stops flowing.

tOSU Alum Assoc seems pretty tight with their info, though. I know because they have a slightly different spelling on my full name, so I would now if they've been selling to marketing lists.

On the FAQ sheet on the creditsafety site it says that Experian basically did all the legwork of sending the letters out.

PS: Thanks mods (whoever) for moving this to the right thread. I had no idea where to look / search.

Signed up for my free year about a month ago.

My credit card company contacted me about a month ago and said my information had been compromised and they gave me a new card/account. Not sure if it's linked or not, but I only use that CC to pay for gas, groceries, and bills.

Either way, I have been unaffected to this point. :p
