Babel was terrible

The Departed - very good movie... could be good enough to grab best picture for Scorsese since this is a weak year.

Little Miss Sunshine... great movie... kinda different than everything else... wasn't good enough to win though.

Didn't see the other two but Helen Mirrem is pretty much a lock for Best Actress for The Queen.

Pretty weak year IMO although I haven't seen "Letters from Iwo Jima".

Of the rest, I liked "Little Miss Sunshine" the best and voted for it even though I thought it did a fair amount of rehashing of National Lampoon's Vacation" and any Christopher Guest movie. The cast synergy was really strong and I laughed a lot.

I liked "The Departed", but having previously seen "Infernal Affairs" (which "The Departed" is a remake of), I know firsthand that it could have been quite a bit better. I'd recommend that anyone who really liked "The Departed" rent "Infernal Affairs" and see if they're still as impressed by "The Departed" after watching that.

We just watched Babel on DVD last night . . . and I suspect I'd have been more impressed had I seen it on the big screen. Good, but it kind of screams "look at how important this FILM is" without adequate cause IMO.

"The Queen" is hard for me to judge. I liked it . . . and I think it's a great example of technically skilled movie-making with respect to the way it conveys intention and though through action rather than words, but some of the casting was kind of odd and a lot of the characters seemed one-dimensional . . . especially when compared to the characters in "Little Miss Sunshine."

Longtime Razzie mainstay Sylvester Stallone, who has a lifetime 30 Razzie nominations and 10 wins, missed out on nominations this year because his latest film, "Rocky Balboa," "didn't always suck," said Wilson.

In fairness to Sly, I saw "Assassins" on TNT the other night and Antonio Banderas made Sly look like Laurence Olivier.

It usually turns out to be the picture I would be least likely to see. I haven't seen any of them personally and I voted the "who cares". The only win that matters to me today is the contest being played in Columbus.

:oh:

Go Little Miss Sunshine!
Go Abigail Breslin!
Go Al Gore!

:p

Red carpet comments:

Reese Witherspoon looks like she's about 12 years old.

I hate Gwenyth Paltrow for looking like that after bearing children.

And I hate Nicole Kidman for looking so good without makeup.

Alan Arkin was an ass.

Al Gore rocks.

Leo DiCaprio is there with his mom. :)
