First, I didn't know they had team rules. Second, imagine how bad the infraction must have been to get kicked off of that team. It had to be something on a par with genocide.

To be fair Chip Kelly kicked Jeremiah Masoli off the team. If Chip would've swept things under the rug the Ducks could've beaten Auburn with him.

He kicked him off the team after he plead guilty to felony burglary iirc.

Kind of tough to sweep that under the rug.

Oregon's offense was actually better in 2010 under Thomas.

2010: 1st in total offense, 1st in rushing offense, 39th in passing offense, 1st in scoring offense (Thomas)
2009: 33rd in total offense, 6th in rushing offense, 98th in passing offense, 8th in scoring offense (Masoli)

Thomas: 222/361 (61.5%) 2,881 yards (8.0) 30 TD 9 INT 151.0 rating; 93 carries 486 yards (5.2) 5 TD
Masoli: 177/305 (58%) 2,147 (7.0) 15 TD 6 INT; 121 carries 668 yards (5.5) 13 TD

I take back that statement about Auburn.

My point is that there aren't many coaches who would kick their starting QB off the team before a season where they're ranked in the top 5. But luckily for Masoli, Houston Nutt was willing to look past all of his mistakes and bring him on board for Graduate School.

that wasn't Masoli's first incident at Oregon, and he had off field issues before Oregon.

Chip was also coming off a year where he let his future NFL best LaGarrette Blount come back early from a suspension and had a ton of bad publicity for it.

I am too lazy to look this up but IIRC, Masoli was charged with felony burglary, but pleaded down to a misdemeanor charge and Chip suspended him after the plea deal. I also thought that shortly after the plea deal he was afoul of the law again, either DUI or marijuana possession and driving with no license.

Way, way too much for any coach to ignore.
