Oregon Ducks (aka U of Nike)

Missed a great opportunity for an O-H-I-O photo.

Oh I've got a few more gems coming, just have to get them uploaded

I hope you had an Oregon fan take those pictures. Good showing!

Not quite but the Oregon folks were quite good natured about it, I have to admit. I got a little flack but that's to be expected. Totally worth it.

As an aside, that campus and town is absolutely gorgeous. Very impressive.

I was out in Vegas 2 weeks after the NCG. Lots of Ducks fans out that way. I totally agree about Oregon fans being good natured. Never a disparaging word while wearing my "Undisputed Champs" gear. I had a nice conversation with some Ducks fans at a bar about the game and what their opinion was on the hows and whys of the game. Drinking was involved so that might have helped.

One of the greatest moments in my Buckeye fanhood was the almost visceral, palpable sense--even through the TV--of that entire team just plain fucking deflating after the first five minutes when it dawned on them that not only would Ohio State run step-for-step with them all game long but would punch them in the mouth harder than they have ever been punched in the mouth at the same time.

The Alabama game was never truly put away for me until the last couple minutes. I knew Oregon was toast after those first couple series.

100% agree.
Still going to make fun of the fact that this is all they'll get out of Knight's death star investment.

The marketing Nike gets is way, way bigger. I don't think Uncle Phil has had any regrets (and Duck fan really, really doesn't like hearing they are essentially an ad campaign ---a pretty damn successful one at that--for Nike) about turning Cinderella into a Princess (albeit one that still turns into a pumpkin at midnight).

I'm not sure how much of it is actual outlay either... everything he's done for their athletic program is tax deductible. A very large percentage is money he'd be parting with one way or another.
Unfortunate he didn't use it on something more beneficial to society... but I guess if ego/fame/recognition is your end goal a medical center like Wexner just doesn't get the same kind of attention.

It pays dividends that dumping the money (marketing vs. humanitarian) into OHSU would never. If nothing else it has made sports here more interesting ('cause god knows the Blazers are guaranteed to under deliver). And it makes Duck fan hyper-sensitive so poking them is even more fun.
