Opinions on the Antonio Davis incident?

Davis should not have even got one game. That Stern is a idiot himself. If anyone to any relations to me was having a problem I would be there in a second to find out what the heck is going on. Then take it from there.

That guy did have 2 witnesses saying she was in his face a few times and touched him and some people would react differentlyto that. I know I would if it's true but that guy is an idiot if anybody saw him on the news. He sounded like a guy crying about being picked on by a lady. lol

For being 22 and looking like that he should say that the damage she caused by touching him caused his looks to make him look 52 .

How do you even know what he's suing over?

Damnit vrbryant! That sounds like speculation! I speculate that you are speculating. I further speculate that you should speculate about that which you speculated upon and speculate on the need to remove said speculation from this all-too-speculative forum.

What I say is objective fact. All others: speculators!

___

Associated Press

CHICAGO -- The fan accused of harassing the wife of New York Knicks forward Antonio Davis will drop threats of a lawsuit if the couple apologizes, the man's attorney said Friday.

Attorney Jay Paul Deratany planned to send a letter to the couple on Friday, asking Davis to make a donation to a charity that tries to prevent violence against women and children. Deratany e-mailed a copy of the letter to The Associated Press.

Davis was suspended five games by the NBA on Thursday, a day after he went into the stands during a game at the United Center in Chicago to confront 22-year-old Michael Axelrod.

Davis' statement after the game said the man he thought was threatening his wife, Kendra, was drunk. Axelrod said all he had was a glass of wine at dinner, and that he did nothing wrong.

Axelrod is asking Davis to take back his comments. He said several witnesses and videotapes of the event back up his client's claims.

Deratany said he would give the Davises about a week to respond.

"Both of us respect the game and the point was to send a message not to harass fans -- either physically or by later comments that disparage their character," Deratany said Friday. "If that's accomplished, then it's time to move on. It's never been about money."

On Thursday, Deratany said he planned to sue Davis and his wife for more than $1 million, alleging battery by Kendra Davis and slander by her husband.

On Friday, Deratany said the $1 million figure was inflated, but declined to say how much his client would seek.

Axelrod's father, David, is a prominent Democratic political consultant in Chicago who has worked with Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton and Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley.

It was a question, but please continue to be an asshole.

vr - thanks for answering the question. I see you conveniently left out the part of slander.

Well actually that is one of the few things on whioch the news is pretty darned clear.

He is suing (according to his attorney) on these point
Deratany said he plans a battery suit against Kendra Davis and slander/defamation/false light action against Antonio Davis, with suits against the NBA and possibly the United Center's security company under consideration. Deratany said his firm is donating its fee from the case to charity.

I highlighted the last because there was an earlier stated version which portrayed Axelrod as donating his award to charity (should he be the winner in the suit). Here it appears only Axelrod's atty is donating to charity, no stipulation by Axelrod that he will do the same. A reasonable assumption is that if Axelrod wins or settles any compensatory award short the atty fee would stay in his pocket. (Axelrod works in the office of atty Deratany). Perhaps he can use any award to help in his father's clients next run for office.

Filing a lawsuit alleging battery against a woman makes you a sniveling douche. If that's slander, call me...uh...Mr. Slander...er.
No, saying he was a drunkard that abused his wife is slander. Which is what he is suing for. You also forgot to bold this part:
"Both of us respect the game and the point was to send a message not to harass fans -- either physically or by later comments that disparage their character," Deratany said Friday. "If that's accomplished, then it's time to move on. It's never been about money."

Why is he a sniveling douche? What would a REAL MAN have done in that situation? I mean besides puff out his chest and order dinner to be ready when he got home from the office :roll2:

Yes, a question -- with an underlying premise: "You DON'T know what he's suing over. I am a moderator and my word is law. My mother says I'm special and different than everyone else."

 Wonderful.

A real man would have been pissed off for about twenty minutes. Then he would have said, "Fuck it," cracked a brew, unplugged the phone, and watched the talking heads on television jaw about it 'til they were blue in the face.

Well said. I'm even more ashamed to call this guy a fellow man after I discovered that he's 22. What self-respecting 22-year-old sues for defamation because someone called him drunk and belligerent? That's good press. Period.

Just because I work with you doesn't mean I like what you have to say.
